Derek Jeter and how quickly the time passes

It seems just like yesterday it was 1995 and Phil Rizzuto called Jeter's first MLB hit. Little did we know what that first hit would spawn. 1996, Jeffrey Maier and the first Yankee title since 1978. Now Maier is 29 years old, Jeter has five rings, 3316 hits and at age 39 has announced the 2014 season will be his last. Hopefully he goes out in style with his sixth ring and a 3500 hit HOF career.

I've liked Jeter from the get go, have appreciated everything he's done, hope he'll finish with a flourish. I have always envisioned him somehow getting into the Yankees ownership group. If Jeter could somehow get into the ownership mix it would give us hope that the Yankees will compete for years to come.

Wow....shock, hope its a productive year and he gets into the top 5 hits all-time.

He'd have to get about 200 hits to reach the top 5 which I really don't see happening. Even reaching 3,500 hits will be a stretch. But honestly he won't be able to do any wrong this coming season. And although I'd love to see him go out with a big season, I'd be fine even if he finished at 250-260.

Derek Jeter is the greatest NY shortstop of all time. Hadn't thought about him insuring that he never has to play another game next to that jackass A-roid but that is pretty funny.
