DETROIT (AP)—A person with the knowledge of the negotiations says the Detroit Pistons have agreed in principle to contracts with free agents Ben Gordon(notes) and Charlie Villanueva(notes).

Why wouldn't Gordon shop to see if there are teams who will offer more? Same with Villanueva?

Why can't the Blazers lock up Hedo in one day like the Pistons?

:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

I like Gordon... hate CV's game though. I don't think he's a very good player or will win you ballgames. I guess Chicago will most likely try to keep Hinrich?

Because Hedo was considering going to the Pistons?

I'm with Ball Don't Lie on this one.

I remember when we sold our house in a crappy little town in Arkansas that had just lost two factories in one month. Somebody from outside the area wanted to buy it for what we thought would be our high starting point. Our realtor looked us square in the eye and said: "You take this is and RUN." That is what those guys' agents are saying to them.

Why can't the Blazers lock up Hedo in one day like the Pistons?

1. Less cap room.
2. Better player, more suitors.

In other news, where will Rip Hamilton be playing next season?

locking up guys on day one usually means that you're overpaying for them.

Dumars is just throwing darts at the wall and hoping to find the target. He's lost it.

Depends on how many serious suitors he had. If his only options were the Pistons or taking less to return to the Bulls.....it may have been an easy choice for him.

I agree with this. Dumars got lucky once. That's it. Take their one championship out of the mix and Dumars has been a disaster.

Trading Billups for Iverson was the dumbest move of the past year in the NBA. Basically, Detroit gets Ben Gordon and Charlie Vwhatshisname for Chauncey Billups.

Good luck with that.

and if those were his only options, offering significantly more than the bulls should be considered overpaying him, right?

Some would rate Gordon as the top FA this summer.

But I get what some are saying and maybe the fact Hedo won't commit to Ptd shows they aren't overpaying him or giving him a take it and run offer.

Just seems like Gordon had a lot of leverage this summer with Chicago stating their #1 goal was to resign Gordon. Blazers are offering a contract to Hedo that is similar to Gordon's contract . . . oh well if we can sign Hedo without offerning something that makes him commit on day one, well more power to the Blazers.

I think Dumars and the pistons are putting together a pretty good team. They certainly aren't there yet, but will be getting close after these trades. A lot has to do with how the team gels. My bet is on Dumars.

Really? I'm not saying I disagree, but undersized SGs bring a pretty big set of problems on the defensive end of the court.

And they've had something like 5 coaches in 8 years. Something like that. Ridiculous.

EDIT: Dumars is OVERRATED!

In Phillie after a three way trade with Portland, Detroit and Phillie.

Detroit gets:

Hedo Turkoglu

Rudy Fernandez

Travis Outlaw

Martell Webster

Joel Przybilla.

Detroit loses:

Tayshaun Prince

Jason Maxiell

Rip hamilton

Phillie gets:

Rip Hamilton

Steve blake

Phillie loses:

Andre Miller

Willie Green

Portland gets:

Tayshaun Prince

Jason Maxiell

Andre Miller

Willie Green.

Portland loses:

Rudy Fernandez

Joel Przybilla

Travis Outlaw

Martell Webster

Steve Blake

Ike Diogu trade exception.

New lineups:

Detroit

PG Stuckey
SG Gordon
SF Hedo
PF Charlie V.
C Przybilla

That's a pretty decent team that will have far more cohesion then last years nightmare.

Philadelphia's lineup:

PG Blake
SG Rip Hamilton
SF Iggy
PF Brand/Young
C Delambert

Not bad more stable less ego if healthy can win quite a bit.

Portland:

PG: Miller/Bayless/Mills
SG: Roy/Bayless/Green
SF Prince/Batum
PF LMA/Maxiell/Cunningham
C Oden/LMA/Pendergraph

That's a pretty devastating lineup.

Man, Bayless is going to be busy!

LMA as well. I think we want Bayless getting 20+ mpg for development reasons. Gets 15 backing up Miller and 7 backing up Roy for a total of 22mpg. LMA would be in about 38-40 minutes per game at either PF or C.
