I think the case can certainly be made:

Oden had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and shot 80% from the field and 100% from the line. The Blazers were +9 while he was on the court.

Durant had 16 points and 5 rebounds, and shot 14% from the field and 71% from the line. The Thunder were -11 while he was on the court.

The only thing I care about is Portland getting the W. But it was nice that Oden had a really solid game.

Ones a center and ones a tweener SG/SF.

I think the true comparison is not in stats, but the relative value of the player to the team.

All that to say that at this point so far in their careers Durant has proven to be the better of the two.

Thanks for not answering the question. And Yes, he did outplay Durant.

Oden outplayed Durant because GO understands the court is 94 feet. Durant seems to think 47 feet of the court are for resting before you chuck your next shot.

Practically everyone on the court outplayed Durant today. He had a lousy, lousy game.

For the first 5 to 6 mins yes. For the other 43 mins. Even

So overall. Yes he did.

If Stern hadn't sent out the memo to the refs that Durant is intended to be the next "it" player he wouldn't have gotten half of those 14 free throw attempts they gifted him (seriously the kick to Oden that got called a block was some of the stupidest or most crooked shit I've ever seen).

He was 3-21 and a non factor at the defensive end of the court ... yeah I'd say Oden's 12/10 and +12 in 30 minutes of play counts as outplaying him.

I thought I saw him block about 4 shots, I was pretty surprised to see he only had one in the box score.

I wonder if anyone on the national news will pick up on this. If so I'm thinking Oden owes Webster one.

oh, you didn't see the ESPN recap?

Durant scored 16 points on 3-for-21 shooting and missed all five of his 3-point attempts in the latest showdown between the top two picks in the 2007 draft. Greg Oden, the No. 1 pick that year, had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

"Once my shot wasn't falling, I tried to get to the line. I think I did a decent job of that. I've got to make those free throws," said Durant, who was 10 for 14 at the foul line.

"But I've got to make those shots where I was wide open or getting to the rim or pulling up in the lane. I've got to make them. Just point blank. My teammates depend on me to make those shots, so I've got to come through for them."

Oden scored six of Portland's first 10 points but wasn't a major factor through most of the game. He hit two free throws with 1:02 left, giving the Blazers a 79-69 edge, after Etan Thomas tugged on his jersey in an effort to send the 7-foot center to the foul line.

Is this what Blazers' fans have to do to get excited about Oden? Compare 1 game? Why not compare the young season? Or their young careers? Why even compare them at all?

Why post on a basketball message board?
Why watch basketball?
Why ask why?

How many bricks could a Durantchuck chuck, if a Durantchuck could chuck bricks?

Durant tweeting post game:

# Wow tough one! But we put ourselves in a position to win by playing defense...back to work tomorrow

we played defense we couldn't make a shot

Random fan tweets KD:
@KevinDurant35 haha what? tired of hearing from people how you going 3-21 killed their fantasy team? how they went from 2nd to 6th in fg% ?

and KD responds:
Can we talk about sumthin else now? Lol
damn man...no sympathy huh? It's cool tho...I'm trying hardest

Oden's ESPN rating for the game: 26.9 (40th overall on the night, 8.0 above his season average rating)
Durant's ESPN rating for the game: 11.0 (92nd overall on the night, 30.5 below his season average rating)

These numbers are of course subject to individual interpretation, but more food for thought and all that.

What!! I didn't read the thread all the way down and prepared this. Then I read the preceding post. Anyway, here it is.
--------------
Durant played 41 minutes and Oden 29. Their efficiency, as a total for the game, followed by per minute:

ESPN definition of efficiency
26.9 .93 Oden
11.0 .27 Durant

NBA.com definition of efficiency
20 .69 Oden
00 .00 Durant

Superstition. Some folks believe that Oden can't be a success, unless Durant is a failure.

(:dunno: Sorry, but that is the closest thing to a rational explanation for the Durant animosity I can come up with.)

One night does not a season or career make. Last night, Durant seriously underplayed his ability, and had his worst game of the season. Oden had his best night of the season.

Oden had the better game.

For the season, Durant is at 22 PPG / 9.3 RPG with almost 10 FTA/game. His shooting is horrible compared to last season, but the team is 2-1.

I have no "Durant animosity" at all. However, the Blazers have taken a lot of grief for picking Oden over Durant, and on the one night when Oden outplays him, Blazer fans have a right to celebrate!

Dude, its a fucking HEAD TO HEAD MATCHUP.

In fact, the first one where both players were 100% healthy.

Is that so hard to understand?

Agreed . . . what is wrong with comparing how they did when they go head to head.
