Anybody use these? I've never been a camera guy but got an old used Rebel XS few months ago. Been tons of fun. Bought 40mm and 200 prime lens. Decided to upgrade to Canon 70d this week can't wait till it's delivered. There's a whole world out there to explore and capture!

I have an old Nikon D40x from 8 or so years ago. I used it a lot, but never invested heavily in lenses (kit, 35mm prime, older 60mm macro and 55-200 zoom). I was looking to upgrade and was thinking of an old Canon 5D or 5DMII, but ended up with a Fuji X-Pro 1 (so not a DSLR). I absolutely love it. I don't shoot action or take videos, both things it is not very strong at, but for everything else it is perfect for me. The size, without sacrificing image quality, is why I ended up picking one up. I always carry a bag and have either it or an old film camera in there. I never did that with my old Nikon, mostly due to the size.

I bought a t3i a few months ago and am shooting a feature comedy right now with a 6D. That's my DP's camera. I'll likely shoot web stuff with the t3i. I got it for more video type projects than to take pictures but I think i'll do both.

Yeah video is interesting. The 70d has a new auto focus system that supposedly rivals camcorders. I also like the idea of crop body for long range nature shots. The 5dmkII is around the same price used and much more of a professional level full frame body. Its easy to get carried away with this gear I'm already thinking of more lens and bodies that would be useful but they ain't cheap!

I think you can get old Nikkon lenses that work just as well as the new Canon lenses and buy the converters. That's one of the draws of these Canon DSLRs.

I've been into amateur nature photography for 40 years, using a Pentax K200 for the last 7 years. It can't compete with newer models feature-wise but has been unbelievably durable for a digital.

DSLRs are too big, I moved to a Mirrorless Micro four thirds Olympus. You have to be a pixel peeper to see the difference in quality - but the weight and size of the equipment is much easier to live with on the mirrorless format.

I'm in the market for a high-end camera.

If you had the choice, which would you prefer between these two:

*Nikon D4s
*Fujifilm X-Pro1

The Nikon has dropped in price to the point of being a realistic option. This is basically full-frame vs. mirrorless.

Those are VERY different choices. Size, weight, price, full frame vs crop.

What are you going to be shooting? I loved my xpro1, but honestly, the AF wasn't that great. Last Christmas I upgraded to the XT-2. It's a huge upgrade, though you lose the rangefinder style and optical view finder.

I like a light set up, and like to shoot street photography when traveling, so the Fuji's are perfect for me. I have a toddler now, so the improved AF of the XT2 was huge (but I know it still is no match for the 4Ds)

If you like shooting zooms, sports/action, or have access to lots of nikon glass, then the 4Ds is probably the way to go.

What is the price of the 4Ds? For a mirrorless equivilent, isn't it more like the high end Sony's?I would think the xpro1 is a fraction of the price

I'm no pro or anything, but if you want I can post some samples from my Fuji's

I'll also add that while I normally shoot in raw, the jpegs that come out of the Fuji's are really really good. On the flip side, Lightroom and other software have issues with the raw files in certain situations. It's never been an issue to me, but Google "watercolor effect Fuji Xtrans" to check it out

Between these 2 I would go for the Fuji, but if I were to buy a high end camera now - an Olympus OMD E-M1X is what I would get for the kind of stuff I photograph.

I have a little Olympus FE-110, maybe 15 years old. Not even SLR but it does have a variable scope lens.
I think it takes some fair shots as I do when out and about on the boat. Although I do touch most of them up a bit with the image processor.
I use Paint Shop Pro for this work. If this doesn't make it a good shot then, I just chuck it and shoot another.

The problem I find with camera is aiming the dam thing since it does not have the SLR. That an slow it is to take when the button in pushed.
I missed getting some shots of whales, mouth wide open within 15 ft of the boat. Damn! It' a long way down in there!

I bought a Canon 35 mm SLR when I was in Vietnam. Took a bunch of pictures over there but lost them all in all the chaos of going through my divorce.
