Disputed Swimming Pool

He's an enviromentalist who loves the planet. That's not a swimming pool, that's a large rain catch basin that his family occasionally swims in.

Fucking haters!

Nice to see the city isn't just bending over. So often, people avoid the code, then when caught, receive a minor slap on the wrist (which sends a terrible message - go ahead and do what you want, it's easier to ask for forgiveness later). Force them to replace the wetlands and remove the pool, or give those bastads a healthy fine.

Who the fuck doesn't know that you need a permit to put a pool in? Or to build just about anything on your property these days. And, if the OP is correct, if he is an attorney, it's even more fucked up that he didn't have proper permits and paperwork BEFORE installation. He should be disbarred.

I didn't bother reading it, but why can't they have a pool?

It's a 1-minute read. Just read it. It's much quicker for you to do that than for someone to summarize and then you read.

Shit, this took longer to type than it would have for you to just read the original article. Stop being lazy.

Wow, so angry

wow

I find it hard to believe that I am more anti government over reaching than most of you, even Brian, damn

Fuck the candy ass planners protecting yet more "wet lands" this whole valley is nothing but wet lands, self serving commisioners and planners pull this shit all the time.

Look at all the time and expence on this already , what a joke. and yeah he should have worked out the permit aahead of time so the powers that be would not have him with his pants down.

LOL - was laughing when I typed that (though partially because you wanted a summary and the article is pretty brief).

I know y'all don't know me personally, but shit, there is extremely little in this world that gets me upset/angry. For realz, FAMS!

I agree that the bureaucracy is a bit ridiculous....and shit like this shouldn't happen....BUT.... rules are rules. Everybody knows they exist, and this is a situation where you absolutely, 100% know, that getting busted is only a matter of time, and the dude could have saved himself a lot of time, money, and stress by following such a basic rule. The dude just plain ol' did something completely stupid and risky, and he should have known it would come back to bit him in the ASS.

And if the dude really is an attorney as the OP says.... what a fucking moron. I wouldn't want him as my attorney. Good job, crossing the t's and dotting the i's (or lower-case j's). That's the type of attorney that will help you lose on a stupid, tiny technicality that was overlooked.

I wasn't being serious. I was quoting a line from The Rundown.

I agree with this.

He knew full well he needed a permit and possible variance. But he went ahead and did this anyway. Well, too bad. He has to play by the same rules we all do. Well, except for pissy mods around here.

Too bad, so sad.

So costly. So stupid.

I figured, that the saw westnob's agreement, so I was like "Maybe they thought I WAS serious."

I figured you knew better.... quoting another movie: "You're my boy, MM."

Fucking fuck! 100,000 bucks to install a pool?!

This was my first thought as well. We spent 1/2 that on our pool and patio here in Texas, and we have some neat gadgets too. We did a lot of work ourselves though.

I'm sorry but I don't see any way you can dispute that's a swimming pool.

Stop stealing my act, because I'm just joshing!

Give the 1% guy his swimming pool!

Who spends that kind of money on a pool in Oregon???

Arrogant transplanted Californian attorneys, and I'd love to see him do 6 months in jail and be disbarred for intentionally violating the law.

7 or 8 years ago another arrogant transplanted Californian attorney actually stole a creek from his neighbor here in Beautiful Central Oregon. He re-routed it through his hillside yard and spent over $50,000 to make it into a grandiose water feature, leaving his neighbor with a mudslide where the creek used to be. He was caught early on and warned by the county but chose to ignore them and finished the job, even bragging about it in the press. He eventually faced federal charges, had to pay to restore the creek to it's natural path, had to pay his neighbor for the damages, was fined something like $200,000 in addition, and sent to prison for a year (mostly for contempt of court orders).

This guy is probably his brother.

Conflicting thoughts:

How can a swimming pool damage wetlands? It's even wetter than the wetlands. Buy a pet seagull and it'll be better than a beach.

Why isn't the construction company partially liable? Why did that company proceed without seeing a permit?

Lawyers are people who show no mercy and put people into jail for disobeying an arbitrary set of rules called law. This lawyer says he ignored the law because a politician verbally advised him to. Being a lawyer, he's supposed to follow a higher standard than that.

All good points.
