Amazing movie. I would recommend it to anyone. I haven't seen a movie like this in a while.

Just got a, "Don't waste your money", comment last night. Still going:)

Can someone who has seen it answer a simple question for me? How do we have the ability to keep a race of aliens here on earth, move them to "District 9" and control them so much so we can move them again when they clearly have superior technology to us? Hopefully I'm not asking for a spoiler.

The movie answers all the questions directly except how we are able to control the aliens. You can speculate on a number of reasons to answer that question after seeing the movie and I would be spoiling the plot if I told you out right.

So it's worth seeing it? Is it a cheesy movie or actually good that it makes you think after getting out of the theater?

Cool. Thanks.

Fuck, how good is it? Is it like Cloverfield type thing going on?

it is definitely worth seeing, but note i wouldn't take anyone younger than 13 to see it, they drop A LOT of "fuck"s and it's kind of meant to point out our cruel nature.

I saw this weekend, really great movie. (but didn't it remind you a little of RoboCop?)

So what is going to happen in 3 years when they come back? Part II is going to be fun.

The movie answers why the aliens aren't more intelligent/independant.

Awesome movie. Definitely worth a visit to the theater.

Word is there will be a sequel, District 10, since District 9 has done so well.

I hated the movie. The handheld camera made me want to throw up. If you've watched Cloverfield, it's kinda like that. I coudn't enjoy the movie because of my motion sickness. The special effects are good, but it seems to be a political movie masked as a sci-fi movie; the theme of the movies revolves around racial segregation in South Africa, or something like that. Blah! Not what I expected at all.

I haven't seen Cloverfield, but this movie is only hand held about 1/3 of the time. The majority of the movie is definitely a normal film style.

Yeah. The whole movie wasn't shot hand-held style, but enough of it was to make me nauseous.

Sci-fi is often used as a vehicle to address political and social issues. That's what made the original Star Trek TV series so unique and special.

The story I heard was that the Soviets heard about this show and commented that there weren't any Soviets in the plot. Roddenberry, exasperated, reportedly said, "Jesus, how about we let them drive the damn thing!" And thus, Chekov was born.

If you don't like movies with political or even religious overtones, then you are missing out on a lot of very good cinema

This movie was nothing like coverfield.

Agreed, completely different genres and production values. District 9 is a movie that spawns discussion and questions about the world we live in while cloverfield was a mildly entertaining movie

Funny if true.
