I would lean towards no and it would be the same reason why I don't think Brandon Roy's No. 7 should be retired: playoff success. In LA's nine years we have only made it out of the First Round once and have yet to reach the Conference Finals. I get that he's climbing up the statistical leader boards for the franchise, but I think leading deep playoff runs is what matters most to me, as a fan.

As it was explained to me by someone in the Blazers retiring numbers is a luxury that comes with team ownership. There is no we.

I have a problem with using Lamarcus, leave and retire in the same sentence

Where's the "Hell No" button? If LA re-signs here, he'll finish up as one of the greatest Blazers ever and be an automatic pick for having his number retired. If he leaves now of his own accord at the peak of his career, he walks away from that. Totally his choice, but choices have consequences.

No, you retire a jersey when a player retires, and usually when he is on the team or resigns to retire on said team. Anything else is silly.

I really thought when I opened up this thread I was going to see a ton of yes's. Kudos to you all.

And No...Let him stick around earn it.

If he were to die suddenly after his 8 years here, maybe yes.

Otherwise, Finals of GTFO.

I hope LA comes back and beats all the blazer records, but if this team doesn't do some serious damage in the playoffs in the next few years, retiring his number would not be justifiable.

I love you LA, you are a beast, come back and become a blazer legend!

If we won a championship with him, yes. As of today, hell to the no.

If he leaves, he will become one of the most hated players in recent team history. No way the team honors him if he abandons ship like that

Not yet. He needs a little more time and a capable leader.

LOL

My post posted three times so I edited two of them. Now I look back and the original is gone.

I'll try again:

Hell no.

And some other stuff I don't remember.

Realistically, if he goes on to some other team and finishes out a decent career, and comes back to be an important part of the franchise after retirement, it's pretty likely he gets retired here.

Like it or not, the bar for retiring Blazers jerseys is exceedingly low. A decade or so from now it'll be too tempting a PR bump.
