Ok, I've noticed the older I'm getting the worse my memory is getting.

Hold on, I forgot what the hell I was going to say.

Have you ever been unable to remember something simple and stupid, but yet in the very next moment recall the lyrics to a tv show theme song from like 30 years ago?

The WKRP theme song all the sudden popped into my head, but I couldn't tell you, for the life of me, where my wallet was.

isn't WKRP on antenna tv one night during the week? maybe you saw it and subliminally remembered from that.

haha yes I am terrible at that sort of stuff also. Working with my tools is the worst, I always set them down to pick something else up and can't remember where I set it down when I need it again. Another problem I have is that when Im busy I always think of 100 other things that need to get done and it stresses me out, then when I have time to do the 100 other things I can't think of anything to get started on. Ive learned a few tricks over the years, I always set my wallet and keys in one of three places in my house, if its not in one of those three places Im screwed. I also got good at using my smart phone to keep track of things I want to do, write it down as soon as I think of it then when Im looking for something to do I check my list.

Also I read a scientific paper on the issue of forgetting things when you walk into another room. Apparently when you cross into another room your brain does a type or reset to the new environment causing people to forget what they came in the room for.

Maybe six months ago or so, I started to notice that my short-term memory and attention span were getting kind of poor, so I did a little experiment and I stopped browsing the web with multiple tabs open, stopped getting on the computer late at night, cut way back on the video game consumption and abstained from most Television and instead returned to an old past-time of reading books for about 3 or 4 hours a night. The first thing I noticed was how hard it was for me to sustain my focus, but after about three or four weeks of practically forcing myself to read, I started to find that I was steadily getting back to a state of mind where I could read a solid 200 to 300 pages in a sitting and my retention has only steadily gotten better.

I'm not sure what this proves, but It makes me think there might be some kind of correlation between over stimulation of the visual cortex and the ability to formulate memories and just plain focus. Maybe I should go see if there's a book about that? ...

Yeah that's my thing. Go somewhere to do something, look around, see 5 things to do, do them, return to where I started, and realize that I didn't do the thing I went to the place to do.

No multiple tabs??? I honestly don't think I could perform my job without at least 15 tabs open at once. Are you just talking about casual "roam around the webz" multiple tabs?
