If not I can definitely see the Lakers/ Blazers rivalry coming back. Do you guys think the Lakers are set up better for the future?

I'm ready to hate them sans Kobe for a change....they're better coached for sure

They have a solid young squad. Their two best players (whoever they are) are for sure not better than our two best players. That's where we have them beat.

Lillard is a firm top 10 player this year. Cj is top 25 atleast. So that's where we get them. But the rest of their roster is a little on par with the rest of ours.

I think Brandon Ingram is going to be a great player.

The Lakers also have a future dominant big man in Julius Randle. Something the Blazers need.

Wasn't Andrew Bynum supposed to be a future dominant big?

How about we wait before it's claimed... anything can happen.

I've never saw them as a rival. They and no one else considers US their rival. The Celtics are their rival. We've (fans and the team) just always woken up when they come to town.

I agree with this for the most part. I would consider the late 80's/early 90's Rip City team the last actual competitive rivalry with the Lakers when both teams were at the top of the NBA.

No. The Seattle Supersonics are our rival. The Lakers are the Evil Empire. Even though the Lakers no longer have the protection of Vlad Stern, hating the Lakers will always remain a moral imperative.

They will always be our rival. Even if they suck monkey balls.

This is the secondary reason why I HATE the Thunder. Of course their lying, greedy owner is the first.

I suppose it depends on how you define a rival. And, I think it's possible to have more than one rival. There is definitely a territorial rivalry between POR and SEA that extends beyond basketball.

However, we have played the Lakers far more times in the playoffs, than any other team. We've played the Lakers 11 times in the post season, to only 4 times for SEA. The Lakers have definitely been our biggest rival whenever we've been good.

In 1977, the Lakers finished 1st in the Pacific Division and we were 2nd. We had to go through them in the WCF to face the 76ers in the finals.

In 1991, we had the best record in the league and won a team record 63 games. The Lakers were 2nd in the Pacific Division and upset us in the WCF.

Of course, we all know what happened in 2000. The Lakers finished 1st in the Pacific, we were 2nd and came oh so close to returning the favor and upsetting them in the WCF.

From the mid-80s through the early 90s, the Blazers and Lakers finished 1st or 2nd in the Pacific Division 7 times in 8 years. We were definitely rivals back then.

The whole realignment and removing teams from SEA and VAN has completely screwed up any chance for a geographic/territorial rivalry.

I should add BGD that when you say "you guys" you do understand HCP is a Laker fan.....right?

Well the Blazers are a game back from the Lakers again. HCP must be happy.

Got to root for Luol Deng and Timofy Mozgov.
