It's not that I have a problem with the message, or tougher gun laws, but why is he trying to stick his noise in someone else's business? It's not even another city in NY that he's trying to bully but another STATE altogether!

I also have a problem with the fact he's trying to connect "occasional sellers" to the VA Tech shooting in an effort to further his agenda when they really didn't have to do with each other. The VT shooter had permits for the guns he used and bought them from a federally licensed dealer.

I know, I know, silly grown-ups, facts are for kids.

People in government need to understand the limits of their power.

Perhaps he's acting as a private citizen? I would guess there is no bar on elected officials contributing to causes they believe in?

He can do that when he's term limited out of office. Right now, he's the mayor of NYC. That position comes with certain constraints.

I'm sure it does, but is this one of them? That is, is the mayor of NYC barred from contributing to political causes outside of NYC?

Legally? Of course not. But in terms of political norms, absolutely.

He certainly has the right as a citizen, although the day is nearing when only gun-owners will be able to actually defend their rights so I guess it's good he's exercising it now.

Gun control is simply a diversion from and scapegoat for the actual causes of these extremely infrequent and isolated instances of mass murder, stemming from the pathetic lack of mental health care availability, which ironically is something Bloomberg is actually getting paid to address and has not.
