The NBA's problem isn't that it's trying to appeal to the "NASCAR" crowd, but it's trying to maintain, and bring back it's old fans. After the Palace brawl and some other issues, the NBA is more worried aabout losing its "family" fans. As in - those parents who chose to bring their children to games, or even let them watch the games.

I'm sure white people in the NFL would have TD celebrations to, but since the majority of NFL running backs and recievers are black, we don't have the opprotunity to see if they would. In high school football at our games, I've seen white kids with crazy TD celebrations. It's not a race thing.

There is a culture war in America, and that prompts me to agree with you on the age thing - somewhat. If you look at the roots of the culture war, you find race prominently in the mix. But this younger generation is more flamboyant in athletics black and white (thanks largely to hip hop, imo). You're right. It's not clear cut racism. But it's still worth looking into.

The crackdown on TD celebrations has absolutely nothing to do with race. Chad Johnson made such a big deal about it weekly that it became a big story, and because of that you had guys like Steve Smith trying to out do him, over a two/three year span a lot of guys were trying to get on TV/ESPN and make a name for themselves...and people in the front office of the league (many of which are purist NFL legends) wanted it regulated.

The only reason Mike Vick is getting judged on this so harshly is because he's the face of his franchise and one of the faces of the NFL. Millions of people look up to him as a role model and he completely screws everything up by doing this. Being black has nothing to do with it at all, if a white guy was doing this for six or seven years he'd get the same punishment, but Vick is a $100 million man who is bringing down the reputation of the league. No one is saying black people are the ones to blame, when have you ever seen guys like Donovan McNabb, Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt, Steve McNair, Tiki Barber, LT, Shaun Alexander, etc. be in serious trouble with the law?? Never. Roger Goodell is going to be accused of discrimination if he doesn't suspend Vick for at least a year, it sends the wrong message that a star QB can get away with killing dogs and betting heavy money on them where as three different guys are suspended for 8-16 games for crimes that aren't half as bad. I love Vick, but he needs to pay for what he did and realize it's his fault.
