Donald Trump now sees himself as something of a patron saint for the birthers – and he's even released his own birth certificate as he steps up criticism of the president.

Seeking to pump more energy into the birther movement and quirky chase for the White House, Trump on Monday provided a copy of his birth certificate to the conservative website Newsmax – which has played a leading role in trumpeting birther mythology.

And in an interview on Fox News, Trump cast himself as something akin to the rebel leader of the birther movement.

“Now, this guy either has a birth certificate or he doesn’t,” Trump said. “And I didn't think this was such a big deal, but I will tell you, it’s turning out to be a very big deal because people now are calling me from all over saying, please don't give up on this issue."

Trump needs to develop is own group of crazies and leave Sarah Palin's alone.

He's taking a bullet for the other GOP candidates. He's not being unreasonable about it, he's just shedding light on the issue.

Obama needs to release a statement that his birth certificate is at the same place Donald Trump's hair is.

Trump's just trying to find a niche where he can get attention, so that more people will tune into "Celebrity Apprentice." Nobody got any traction with the "Certificate of live birth means nothing, where's his birth certificate" line when it first came up and Trump isn't trying to get any (political) traction now. It's all about self-promotion. Not sure it will work, but probably worth a try. Nothing to lose, since he's never valued dignity. ;)

I think it's a legitimate concern though. Why is it such a big deal to ask the President of the United States to produce a birth certificate? I had to provide mine to join the military and that was just to be a lowly journalist in the Navy. Why is it such a big deal to ask someone who is President to do the same when it's a requirement to hold the position?

What is a legitimate concern? That Obama may not be an actual US native? I can't say I agree.

Whether he could, or should, produce a birth certificate (when he has produced a certificate of live birth from Hawaii) is not of much interest to me. I hope the Republicans focus on the issue though. It made them look silly in 2008 and it'll do so again if they go that route again.

If he's not American, he has to repay all those scholarships and loans he got.

I'd like to check Obama's wallet for an Al Qaeda membership card. Really. Imagine if one were found. It would be very, very important. Does anyone want to argue with me that it would be important? Then what are we waiting for?

He's just preaching to the crazies.

It's just far too complicated for it to be that he wasn't born in Hawaii.

Hawaii? That's totally not even a real state. It's only an honorary state, right?

Even if he was born in Kenya (or wherever) and moved to Hawaii a few days later.

Now, if he came to the US at age 25 we have a serious constitutional issue. Seems to me there's a letter of the law and a spirit of the law. And moving here at age 3 or 5 days really doesn't violate the spirit of the law.

Shhhh BP. We're working on his chink in the armor! :devilwink:

1. Only the letter of the law is enforceable.

2. Moving here at any time from another country violates both.

It has been online for three years now.

"What is Donald Trump hiding?

The multimillionaire developer has, overnight, become a leading voice of the “birther” movement, members of which doubt that President Barack Obama was born in the United States (and, thus, is unable to produce an authentic U.S. birth certificate).

“It’s inconceivable that, after four years of questioning, the president still hasn’t produced his birth certificate,” Trump told Newsmax. “I’m just asking President Obama to show the public his birth certificate. Why’s he making an issue out of this?" To prove how easy it was for a household employee to find his birth certificate, Trump, 64, crowed, “It took me one hour to get my birth certificate.”

As seen above, he provided the conservative web site with what he purports to be his birth certificate.

Except the document is not an official New York City birth certificate, but rather a document generated by Jamaica Hospital, where Trump’s mother Mary reportedly gave birth in June 1946. Official birth certificates are issued (and maintained) by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Office of Vital Records.

So, what is Trump trying to conceal?

On a possibly related note, Jamaica Hospital has been the recipient of significant financial largesse from the Trump family. In fact, the Queens institution includes the Trump Pavilion, a nursing and rehabilitation facility that was named for Mary Trump."

crazy bigots and hopelessly partisan :smiley-cheer:

that Trump is the one running this weak crap out should finally be the death of it. It would be great if the next election debated some of the actual issues affecting most US citizens and not this sort of tabloid nonsense. Both parties fail us daily chasing the same lobbyist $$$

It's useful to think of it just like Puerto Rico except fundamentally different in many, many ways.

I don't like Puerto Rico for its part in the creation of Rosie Perez, which was an unforgivable act.

I'm glad Trump joined the birther movement. There's nothing like a "credible personality" to carry your movement further. In one direction anyway.

It makes one wonder why Obama won't release his long form BC, though. He's spent a few million dollars contesting it in court. Some twins born the same day, at the same hospital, as Obama release theirs. Seems like an easy enough thing to do. I don't believe a word the guy says, anyhow, so it really doesn't matter to me if he was born in Hawaii, Kenya, or Mars. I just think he's a terrible President and a very petty and small man.

One question. If producing his birth certificate is a non-issue, why has Obama spent over $1 million trying to keep it hidden? What is he trying to hide? That's the question that all you moon-bat liberals keep ignoring.

Check out Chris Matthews on this issue. He's a big Obama supporter, but even he has asked the president to just produce his birth certificate.

The difference between the two is Puerto Rico wants to be a state, while Hawaii does not.

Indeed, he's the sort of small, petty man who would spend time worrying about small, petty issues like someone else's birth certificate.

I rather doubt he has spent $1 million, but if you have any evidence to that effect, let's see it. And no, unsupported assertions from other moon-bat conservatives that he spent $1 million don't count.

Evidence, let's see it.

No problem. Here you go, my friend.

President Obama has paid nearly $1.7 million to his top eligibility lawyer since the election . . . Robert Bauer of Perkins Coie – top lawyer for Obama, Obama's presidential campaign, the Democratic National Committee and Obama's Organizing for America – is the same Washington, D.C., lawyer who defended President Obama in lawsuits challenging his eligibility to be president.

The above article provides copies of billing records to the law firm of Perkins Coie, as well as a letter from Robert Bauer asking that a request for Obama's birth certificate be denied. This article appeared in 2009, so one can only imagine what Obama's legal tab is now.

The article says:
The $1.7M was for legal expenses (to get elected) incurred during the election and paid a few months after it. Another $0.9M was paid before the election. One lawyer in the firm also represented Obama in the small matter of his birth certificate. (That covered a tiny part of the $1.7M, probably 200 dollars to write a threatening letter or something.)

You obviously haven't been following this story. There have been at least 12 lawsuits demanding that Obama provide his birth certificate, and each of those suits required legal expenses on the part of Obama. He has a whole legal team devoted to this issue, because he knows how important it is.

I'm sure they did, however because the suits are frivolous, the legal expenses are probably quite low. As jlprk pointed out, you are assigning his entire legal expenses to this one issue, incorrectly.

He has a whole legal team devoted to this issue, because he knows how important it is.

Again, where is the evidence that he has 'a whole legal team devoted to this issue'? Even your own link could only come up with one letter - which is probably about $500 of legal expenses.
