Donovan Clingan Appreciation Thread

He's just a sophomore as well. This kid could become a HOFer in his era if he keeps it up. His conditioning is impressive for 7'2...playing 30+ minutes a night and producing, staying out of foul trouble and getting to the line. Best center we've had in a long time.

I've said it before and will project again that I consider him to be Brad Daugherty, offensively. Not some unstoppable force so much as a quality big man with non-flashy post moves and some rim running & jump shooting. Probably designed for an older era but more than capable of fitting in the modern game due to being able to move well for his size.

Gobert-esque, defensively.

Funny enough, I recall reading older draft reports compare Tim Duncan to Brad Daugherty but with far better defensive potential.

Obviously, I would be very surprised if he became that good but just like Embiid and Jokic were in the same draft, I view Edey and Clingan to be similar for the 2020s.

We really know how to get value out of a 6-9 draft pick. He's a *tall* 7'2" (those high shoulders and long arms). He will end up in the top 3 all-time Blazer centers, and if we win it all someday with him...? Kid has the drive, on-court leadership... he turns 22 Monday. He's got another five years of getting better before he's even in his prime.

I had my fingers crossed for DC going into that draft though he looks to be exceeding my projection of being a rich man's Pryzbilla. The comparison was made as like Joel, DC does the traditional Big man stuff but I thought he had better hands/coordination which would give him more offensive possibilities. At 21/22 he's even more of a rim protector & a better rebounder on both ends, but it's the legit 3 ball threat & better FT% allow him to be effective on Offense (which JP never really was). Dude is crushing it.

This surprises me every game. I did not see that coming. Centers develop more slowly than other positions. If he can stay healthy, he is only going to get better.

Happy 22nd Birthday, DC!

He's been my favorite player since we drafted him. Shocked, but thrilled, that he found an offensive game to go along with the elite rebounding and defense in just year 2.

Agree 100% but wish the Blazers would bring Pryz back for a year of teaching DC the art of screen setting. Clingan does it pretty well at this point but Pryzbilla had a doctorate in setting screens.

Same with you on my predictions of being similar to Pryz. Way outplayed my expectations. Love his demeanor out there on the court.

Was thinking that if they re-did that 2024 draft, he would probably go #2? Where are the guys who said how stacked that draft was by the way. Spending all there time cracking on @THE HCP for calling it weak. Maybe the wort draft EVER!

who was saying that draft was stacked? I don't think anybody here said that; consensus was it was a bad class

You’re out of your fucking mind. There were two dudes on here constantly talking about the talent in that draft and one in particular who daily cracked on me for questioning that. How I knew nothing about basketball because I swore it was going to be horrible.

I think the push back was when you said not one player drafted in 2024 would have been selected in the 2025 lottery.
Stephon Castle is a stud. DC would have been selected as well.

it's awful soon to pull that out. Their track record gives them enough leeway here.
When you look at the leap Clingan has made in just one year, it's way too soon to even think of giving up on Yang, especially at his age. But then, we live in the age of instant gratification.....and too many folks get churlish when they don't receive it......

This might be among the truest statements ever said on this or any other message board.

Its 1000x worse on Twitter. That place is so full of idiots who think themselves to be basketball gurus when they're truly idiots who have no patience, no common sense and no perspective of reality.

Thankfully this place isn't overrun with those people like Twitter is.
