Donovan Clingan Appreciation Thread

Donovan runs the defense, and is visibly refining his offensive game by the week. His last 14 games since the ASG have been another level from even this season before the ASG. His 3P% is cromulent now, his FT% is decent for a big guy, and the team is starting to run simple plays for him as a trailer for a driving wing like Deni, which helps him and Deni both. I'm pleased with how far along he is already.

He's definitely our second best player overall, and depending on the night and matchup might be the best player out there.
He's rolling a lot better this year...

Amazing the guy has virtually zero post moves but has tremendous effect on both ends of the court. Definitely a winner and might have just as much impact as Deni. That said I’d still like to have RW2 on team, his ability to cover out to 3pt line is Clingans weakness

Yeah, that is impressive. I love the way Thybulle plays. It is amazing how many balls he gets his hands on. Not convinced that he is a great one-on-one defender, but he sure as hell is a great help defender. He flies around the court.
I've noticed him getting a lot of deflections on passes where he's not facing the passing lanes. I wonder if he's just one of those people with exceptional peripheral vision?

He's a great disruptor. He's constantly putting his hands in the cookie jar. Players have to have their heads on a swivel and be constantly looking over their shoulders.

So would "a combination of Mark Eaton and Bill Laimbeer, but not as ugly" be a fair (if optimistic) comparison?

Kinda wonder if DC should start looking at the footwork of Kevin McHale
I would like it if he could develop a 5-10 foot hook like Hakeem or Kareem. I think with his arm length, it could make him unstoppable down there. Needs to continue to work on his hands and footwork though. Footwork seems to be improving faster than the hands currently.

By the All Star break next season, Clingan is a top __ Center in the league? Fill in the blank.
Cs to consider...Jokic, Duren, Towns, Jarret Allen, Poetl, Bam, Embiid, Sarr, Vucevic, anthony Davis, Zubac, Hartenstein, Wemby, Ayton, Sengun, Gobert, Sabonis, Kessler, Edey
Top 20.
Somewhere in the middle is my thinking. 13-17. He has some good games and some stinkers. He still gets played off the court by good teams. He will be unplayable in the playoffs for the most part. If the team ever gets back to the playoffs.

I based my comment on reality and ability. You did not.

Ouch. Almost like some kind of abrasive toilet compound, huh? Comet, that's it, comet! Tell me, why could DC could not look at Shaq's finishing at the rim to at least see what he can adopt or try? Anyway.

He's already very easily in that range, IMO. This assumes either no improvement, or everyone else below just improves more?
