Don’t look now but Sharpe is making a leap

I don't see many scenarios where Sharpe isn't here next year. I think Dame wants to play with him. We need to upgrade some position though. I think Scoot could be the candidate to move, especially if we want to keep Jrue who is truly a good fit next to Dame.

What could Scoot, Grant, a top 10 pick get us as an upgrade?

Scoot is way undervalued right now. He needs to play and play well to recoup value.

I love Shaedon. I especially love Shaedon if we can get Scoot healthy and playing next to him in the back court. I think Shaedon and Scoot's personalities are very complementary.

I actually still want to move forward with a core of Scoot, Shaedon and Deni. I think if Scoot can have a great second half of the season then we'll have the flexibility to have a three guard rotation of Scoot, Shaedon and Dame next season.

I do hope that we get value back in a trade that sends Jrue out between now and the deadline. That being said the potential future logjam at PG shouldn't keep Shaedon from getting 30+ minutes a game next season.

Shaedon/Deni/Camara/Clingan (combined for 88 points 35 rebounds and 15 assists tonight) is a core you can build around. Insert any of our currently injured PGs in that lineup and we feast.

Judge no player useless before they're 23

Unless they are Meyers Leonard, or Keljin Blevins, or any number of other players we have had.

By that logic we can’t determine Rupert’s usefulness or Love, etc.

In essence, let the cake bake until burned and then try to trade it.

Disagree on that statement.

I didn’t realize this would be a controversial opinion.

I believe Sharpe is a 27+/5/3+ type player in his prime (which, theoretically, would run from 2028 through 2035). Technically, he currently already is in terms of 'Per 36'. It's just a matter of experience and improving the little things like shot selection, handles, subtle cues on both ends, etc.

Deni is similar. 25+/7/7.

With Clingan, we can expect Gobert type numbers. 15/14/2.5 blks

Scoot was technically 17/8 per 36, too, which would fulfill the role that Jrue was occupying.

Toumani is a 12/5 guy with lockdown defense.

Ideally, this young core needs one more guy at the 3/4

I don't disagree with any of this...but what I do want to see if Shaedon take over a game LATE and be the catalyst for a victory.

I'm not knocking him or saying he's a failure if he doesn't do it, but I want to see that in him.

hold the phone...Meyers didn't stat getting criticism until after he was 23. And Keljin?? He was 25 in his first year.

I don’t think you need Sharpe to be The Guy late in the game if you have Deni on your team. He wants that role, and he can have it. What I want Sharpe to improve on is not chickening out when he receives a dish for an open shot late in the game. That’s frustrating to see. But he doesn’t need to be The Guy.

c'mon man..."after 23" is 24 and when he was 24 he was in his 5th season....and he was getting dismissed by his 2nd season when he was 21 and decided he was a SF rather than a C

there have been a lot of Blazer players that any observer could tell were not NBA material before they were 23

Ha_Seung Jin 19 & 20
Victor Khryapa 22 & 23
Telfaire was in his 4th season by the time he was 22 and was a known commodity
Sergei Monia was a bust in his one season when 22
Taurean Green had one NBA season at 21
Luke Babbitt was an obvious scrub when he was 22
The scrub talent level of Eliot Williams and Armon Johnson were obvious at 22
Nolan Smith entered the NBA at 23; and exited at 23
TRob entered the NBA at 21 and didn't improve a bit
Noah Vonleh was a high-level scrub at 20, and still a scrub at 27
what Jake Layman was going to be was clear when he was 22
Caleb Swanigan was out of the league at 22

I think it's a false narrative to insist we can't project players before they are 23. Rookie seasons? ok...sometimes that can be misleading. But by 2nd seasons I think the trajectories of most NBA players is pretty predictable

Sharpes shot is coming around now #1 thing he has to improve is his handles. Add that to his game where he can be like Deni and get to any spot he wants to offensively. While it hurts not having a PG last month or so it’s been good for Deni and Sharpe to expand their game
