Crap. I feel much worse for Pendergraph because he's getting waived just because he got injured. Used to be that you MADE the team if you got injured in training camp (that's what happened with John Starks) because you could be stashed in IR, and, y'know, teams felt responsible and a sense of minimum decency. Now it's the 15 player limit, it works the other way.
The Blazers BETTER let him hang around to rehab....

What was the point to keeping Pendy on the roster?
His contract was guaranteed so he doesn't lose any money. We can still sign him next off-season. So I don't see any downside to him or the team with him being waived.

Bingo! I guess some don't understand that he gets paid regardless. The only real downside for him is when we win the championship this year he won't get a ring.

Why would he possibly want to stick around and rehab here when he can go home and have it all payed for, hang out with friends, and have his mom cook him dinner? He wasn't going to be resigned by the Blazers next year anyway, and he has his paycheck for the year, so he is basically out nothing long term.
It is rare that second rounders that remained in the second and third unit ever get a second contract, and unfortunately for Jeff, nice guy as he was, that is the category he falls into.
It would have been wholly irresponsible to get rid of a serviceable player and keep him around now that there is no IR, people would have Cho's head once another injury hit and we didn't have enough players.
