Forum Game Down the stretch they go!

I forgot about this thread, so I checked to see how dumb I was, even though you guys are always certain to let me know just how dumb...

surprisingly, I didn't offer an opinion, but I sure wouldn't have predicted a 4-0 start to the 12 game stretch, and the very real chance at a 6-0 road trip.

I've been following the Blazers since they had Sidney Wicks and Geoff Petrie, but I don't think I've even seen such a dramatic pivot to the way they've been playing in a 2 day period. It's crazy

I am hoping for 1 loss though because if Portland goes 12-0 Sly will become even more insufferable than he already is. He'll be leg-humping all of us for years

I thought we had the tiebreaker over one of them?

I guess the problem is that the Mavs have it over the Lakers? If the Lakers have it over us, how is it decided, and why are we the ones who'll get screwed?
In the event two or more teams are tied in the standings, a series of tiebreakers are applied to determine which team receives the higher seeding.

  • Two-Team Tiebreaker:
    • 1. Better record in head-to-head games
    • 2. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
    • 3. Higher winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
    • 4. Higher winning percentage in conference games
    • 5. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
    • 6. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in opposite conference
    • 7. Higher point differential between points scored and points allowed
  • Three-Team Tiebreaker:
    • 1. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
    • 2. Best head-to-head winning percentage among all teams tied
    • 3. Highest winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
    • 4. Highest winning percentage in conference games
    • 5. Highest winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
    • 6. Highest point differential between points scored and points allowed

5 games left. Two of the teams have worse records than us and the other three have better than we do. That should mean that we go 2-3.

The Lakers have a worse record than Phoenix the same record as the Knicks and a better record than the rest of the three teams they face.

The Mavs don't face one team with a better record than they have.

This would suggest that we have the best chance of the three teams to finish in the sixth spot and barely staying out of the play-ins.

Obviously there are a myriad factors that might make a difference. The Mavs opponents all might be tanking or wanting to play the role of the spoiler, the Lakers and our opponents might be doing a combo of tanking, spoiler, resting or jockeying for playoff position but the odds are that the Lakers still finish tied with us but we have the tie breaker and we get the sixth seed.

hopefully 0-12

If the Blazers can win the next 3, which is doable if they stop allowing layups and play aggressive defense, 6 wins and 6 losses is my guess.

Let's hope for playing fresh players to keep defense, rebounding, and off-ball movement at up tempo to get the 6 wins.

Five wins out of twelve.

5-7
Wins versus Pacers, Hawks, Cavs, Rockets, & Nuggets

5-7 sound about right.

Wow. Cavs and Rockets I'll give you.

OP already has 2-10 and I agree with that.

Whatever win total means us ending up in 10th place... that.

3-9 or 4-8....they will surprise us with an unexpected win or two.

Shit, and you guys were serious! LOL!

The way injuries are lately, teams like Utah, Denver, and Phoenix won’t be playing their stars. Nets don’t have Harden. Celtics have been godawful, just lost to a Thunder team that is trying to lose. Blazers will crush Spurs and Cavs. Trae Young is out. Who knows when LeBron will be back. 8-2 seems doable.
Truth.

c'mon eric....you predict a championship for Portland every single season, and you predict a win in every game thread....but you're dissing people for wrong predictions?
It was an unbelievable lack of faith in our team in this thread. People have to be called out.

I see nothing wrong with calling out bad prediction, no matter which direction you missed it

Agreed. But it's like when the person who cheats on their spouse calls you out for looking at someone else.

I disagree. People make the predictions here all the time; part of the fun. We don't need a room monitor keeping track of missed predictions especially when it's used to gauge the purity of somebody's fandom

obviously, if I'm always right I'd have a different opinion

I don't mind @KSF-ERIC calling people out for making the wrong predictions but you touched on what I do mind. When he questions how dedicated of a fan someone is because they have a different idea of what the team is capable of, that's nonsense. In his world unless you grossly overestimate the team, you're not a fan. I don't think him being completely delusional about how good our team is makes him less of a fan but I do think it gives him a huge credibility problem in here.

Only the playoffs matter now.

We win if we lose in the first or second round as we get stotts out of here finally.

We win if we make it to the conference finals or the finals, cause that's fun. Then we lose cause stotts is still here, but at least we had fun along the way this year.

Lots to look forward to.

Grizzlies up three over Dallas at halftime, too close to call.

I think you are a bad fan if you quit on the team when they hit a little adversity. Thank goodness Dame, Olshey, Stotts, etc don’t quit.

Gotta make playoffs first. Almost there.

well, between the 3 of them they are being paid 45M a year to not quit

pay me 1/10th of that and I'll root in a delusional manner too

They weren’t delusional. They were staying in the fight. You need to be paid to stay in the fight with your team.

It’s baseball but “when the odds are sayin you’ll never win, that’s when the grin should start.”:

And what’s delusional about rooting for your team? You either root for them or you don’t. I root for them.

you do more than that. You "root'' for Portland, and you spend a lot of time here trashing people who don't root for Portland in the same way you do
