Where are those options?

Portland needs someone with some attitude. I don't see any "better" fits for backup PG than GPII.

Layman isn't quick enough to guard the SF in the NBA. I think his only shot of sticking is becoming a small ball 4.
I haven't seen Layman play much at all..just from what I watched on youtube tonight he's actually very quick and recovers on defense really well. You like Payton...that's fine..I don't. I think Layman is the better choice

He has on and off the court issues and an attitude problem according to people who've spent time around him..I've seen him a few times at the gym there but don't really know the kid..second hand info from my son's classmates up there..

Sounds like another entitled douche with a famous father. Klay Thompson.

Going into the draft I had extremely low expectations.

But I was hoping we'd get a pick in the 20s or early 30s to land Georgios Papagiannis - who skyrocketed to the lotto.

I like Layman as insurance if/when Mo Harkless bolts. Jake has a skillset thst fits in really well with the Stotts system.

Mo Harkless can't bolt. He's restricted.

Seems like Rockets wanted Payton all along, ballsy move by Morey. It was one that paid off, but not a smart one IMO.

Hell no

Shit well there goes that. We were talking about how Houston was in play for drafting Payton since he fills a defensive need for them, and they like Harden handling the ball. Good fit for Payton.

Pat Bev replacement?

47. Orlando Magic (traded to Portland Trail Blazers)
Pick: Jake Layman, forward, Maryland
Grade: C-
Analysis:
As a pure-shooting, athletically gifted 6-foot-9 wing, Layman fits the bill in Portland. But he lacks consistency and versatility, and didn't make much of an offensive impact during his time at Maryland.

Fox Sports:
Portland Trailblazers
Round 1: N/A
Round 2: Jake Layman, SF, Maryland (47) (*via Orlando)
Grade: D

The Blazers had just one pick, and used it on a guy who probably won't be in the NBA for very long.

Yes, Layman was a projected first-round pick coming into the year. But after watching him against elite talent at the Nike Skills Academy last summer (and in the Big Ten this year), I think he might want to consider getting his passport updated.
