@DraftExpress Memphis Grizzlies not happy Utah matched Millsap. They had a trade in place for Travis Outlaw for a draft pick contingent on that.

deserved its own thread! :)

all he's worth is a DRAFT PICK? lame.

Depends on how protected it was. If it was protected to 3 or 5, I think it's a good deal as Memphis has a pretty good chance of landing in the 5-10 spot.

I'd be pissed if we traded him and all we got was a Memphis DP.

I wouldn't. I'd trade Outlaw for a pair of used socks and a bag of walnuts. At least the bag of walnuts could play better defense and wouldn't take shots away from Brandon, Rudy or LaMarcus in the fourth quarter.

Man, if Outlaw was traded for a lottery pick, I would be so giddy. That lotto pick would have loads more value than Outlaw.

Trading Outlaw for nothing guaranteed in return would be a pretty big waste.

Sure you get a little extra money to use around the trade deadline, but still.

i'm surprised the blazers thought there was a realistic chance the jazz wouldn't match

You get a possible lottery pick. That's amazing value for Outlaw...

I'd have to know what the deal was first and the chances of the Blazers getting the pick before I'd take it.

To summarize ...

Well of course, but I'd like to think it would be protected to 5.

Hell, even if it was lottery protected this year, top 5 protected the next, we would still likely get a lotto pick given how badly the Grizzlies suck and keep sucking.

I'm not sure people realize how much better this team would be without Travis. More minutes for Nic and Rudy is going to give you WAY more production on both ends of the floor than playing Travis.

If Portland was serious about this deal, it really speaks volumes about how little they think of Travis.

Or Portland was toying with Memphis cuz they're still pissed about the D. Miles situation.

Portland knew Utah would match, but still approached Memphis and said, "Yeah, you can have Outlaw. When Utah doesn't match Millsap's contract!!" Meanwhile, Pritchard hangs up, laughing, fingers crossed, and says, "Yeah and monkeys might fly out of my butt."

Or Portland made the offer to keep Memphis from doing anything to help Utah.

Maybe they were just fucking with Memphis....

KP: "His Chris... just calling to talk about Outlaw..."

Wallace: "Really? You'd trade us Travis?"

KP: "Sure, and we'd only ask for a draft pick in return. A 2nd rounder even!"

Wallace: "Don't play with my emotions Kevin... You know how much I love Travis Outlaw."

KP: "I'm serious Chris. We're about to sign Paul Millsap and I need to clear some space on my roster."

Wallace: "Okay, okay... so.... Travis for a 2nd rounder.... done deal?"

KP: "Not so fast, it's contingent on Utah matching the offer for Millsap."

Wallace: "Okay.... but THEN you'll trade us Travis?"

KP: "Yup!"

Wallace: "Sweet! You just made my day Kevin!"

KP: "No problem. I'll talk to you later Chris."

Wallace: "Bye!"

*hangs up*

KP: "Pritch slapped another one."

*high fives Tom Penn*

Considering how much of a hard on chris Wallace has had for Travis it's funny to think that maybe they had this in place to fuck with him. Knowing full well that Utah would match. Kinda like two people agreeing to get married if they're still single by a certain age.

Not likely but funny thought.

Edit: beaten by faster posters!!!!

LOL that was awesome!

I don't think they necesarily did. But why not have something in place in case it happens? I think that was more of the thinking.

But what I wanted to know is, why would Milsap not signing effect this trade? Are they saying suddenly we have to keep Outlaw?

So if they add a player like Millsap, they need to get rid of a player to make room. So to make room they need to trade a player and they didn't want a player back. And it seems evident that potential trading partners (Chicago) are not interested in 2-1 scenarios as most of them want to shed contracts too. Plus this would send Travis to a place that is close to home. Makes sense to me

I still say we should go through with it. This was on my wish list.

There's a pretty big difference in having 11.3M in cap space and a potential lotto pick (14M in October) and 7.7M in space and Travis. I'm not the biggest Travis fan ANYWAY, and wouldn't have blinked if they had cut him June 30 for the extra space--but if MEM is willing to give us a draft pick, more cap space, and remove their ability to use their cap space to screw us? That's a trifecta.

You make a strong argument.

I agree completely, and Dante Cunningham is better than Travis anyhow.

What's weird to me is that the Grizz thought there was a chance that Utah wouldn't match.
