His injuries have slowed him down, as seen by his numbers at Duke, but he is an elite level talent. IMO, especially with Williams staying at Texas A&M, you take this chance and even trade up if you have to.
 
He was projected as a top 3 pick before injuries, talent is still there, the only remaining questions is whether he will be able to stay fit to develop. I don't think we should take him with our pick but with Memphis or even Cleveland it would be a good piece of business.

Idk about trading up, but I would take him with any of our three picks.
 
I'd happily take a flier with one of the later picks!
 
The ACL's don't worry me, but the meniscus does. I would only take him with the third pick; and then only if all the other guys that really interest me are already gone. Aside from the obvious top 15-level picks (which includes Zach Collins and Justin Jackson, IMO), I'd probably take Anunoby, Anigbogu, Ojeleye, Patton, and Adebayo before Giles.

Some of those guys are so limited with their upside though, you really wouldn't rather take a chance on an all star ceiling?

Yeah. I would perhaps take one power forwards as an insurance before Giles but then it's him. Sometimes it's worth to take a chance on someone who can be potentially great than accept someone who you know for certain will be maximum decent.
 
Hard to say without knowing who else might slip to us. But I think ONE reach in the first round is a good idea when the reward could be so hight. Especially with Cleveland's pick.
Giles, with his injury history, definitely falls in that category.

Limited upside? All the guys I listed are stud athletes, and Ojeleye is the only one that's even 20 years old. Perhaps you're just referring to their offensive potential (Namely Anigbogu and Odebayo), but I'm not really looking for offense from those two.

Their athleticism might be elite, but their skill sets aren't. Thomas Robinson is an elite athlete too. I just don't see any of those guys with the upside of Giles. OG is the closest, and hes more of a theory as well.
 
Doesn't finish very well especially against players his own size. Lots of TOs as well. Good size and great length but I don't see very good skills. Footwork is poor and his shot is suspect. As @PtldPlatypus mentioned, I'm more concerned about his meniscus than his ACL but when he already has an injury to both, not sure I would take him unless it was with the 3rd 1st round pick.
 
If we don't swing a trade, give me Anunoby and Patton with two of our picks and I'd be thrilled.
 
Unless we pull off a great trade, my dream draft would any three of Og, Patton, Ike and Giles.

I like what Dame, CJ and Nurk have, but feel like we are still lacking the Jerome Kersey in the lineup. Chief has had solid moments, but you want that tough athlete that rebounds and plays defense. Vonleh could develop into that, but we have so many needs at PF and C I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on 2-3 athletic bigs.
 
Isn't Ivan Rabb a better prospect? And he doesn't come with the injury baggage.

He might be, but he has underwhelmed in college. He could be one of those guys that just never peaks, or he could be a guy like Drummond who just needs to get into the NBA in order to put it all together. Evaluators would have to see where his heart is.
 
I think Rabb would be gone at 26. If Giles was there and we got a couple of guys like Anunoby and Patton (or someone similar) already, Giles would be a steal at that pick. Your risk factor is lessened by the players you already picked, and his upside I think makes him worth the risk, providing someone with comparable upside doesn't unexpectedly drop into your lap.
 
Rabb might be gone at 26 but should still available at 18. DraftExpress currently have Collins, Patton, Ike, Rabb and Hartenstein available with our and in some cases Memphis pick.

NBADraft.net actually predict Justin Jackson to be available with all our picks but that's obviously stupid.

We will have three shots which is great. I don't see a reason to combine two picks and trade up. Better take three chances at some of Patton, Collins, Rabb, Anunoby, Giles, Ike etc.

We will prioritize power forward and have lots of choice. We may also like someone who can play both PF and C, and probably get a small forward with one of the picks, unless we just go for 3 big men and see which of them works out. We will have minutes to share between Nurk, Vonleh and the new 2-3 players anyway.

OG has a lot of potential, and so does Ojeleye. Patton, Adebeyo, and Anigbogu will all be role players at best.

Giles has more upside than all of them.
 
In a draft with 3 picks, it's a failure if you don't take at least 1 boom or bust prospect.

I'd rather take 3 players with a 33% chance to become an all-star and a 67% chance to be absolutely nothing, than to take 3 guys with a 75% chance to be a decent role player, and a 25% chance to be nothing.

The first scenario, you likely get one all-star with a small chance at two.
In the 2nd scenario, you get two or three role players.

Well guess what, we don't need more role players!! We need a legit piece on the level of our big 3. Giles has that potential.

It'd be cool, but I just don't like Rabb's game. He has the skills of a center and the size of a PF. He's not big enough to play C but he can't shoot either. He's not that athletic and he isn't a great defender. Just not sure what he brings to the table. He should be a 2nd round draft pick IMO.
 
So, consensus picks from the room are Anunoby at 16, Giles at 20, and Ojeleye at 26?
 
Giles is the biggest boom or bust prospect in years IMO. He'd be the consensus #1 pick this year if it weren't for his injury history. That is a big concern though - do you take him over much safer picks like J. Collins or Anunoby?
