I've been really warming up to the idea of trading for Draymond Green. Hear me out...

As a referee, his court demeanor really irritates me. I remember the time when he was so pissed he accidentally hit Ken Mauer and literally drew blood without penalty... His outbursts and constant conversations with the refs are one of the reasons why I would never go past the college level of refereeing. At least then in those moments you're usually dealing only with head coaches. I saw his argument with Durant and gave him a pass because The Snake... Is to me a different kind of asshole... He's a sneaky one and Draymond's "assholishness" (I know it's not a word) is on his sleeve. Shit, maybe I just misjudged his passion... I think our team is lacking that kind of passion. Which is why Dame's comment about some folks being ok with just making the playoffs really sticks out... There's been speculation that Dame is recruiting Draymond as they have become friends over time. A few times Green has expressed displeasure with GSW management... There have been rumors about Simmons and GSW. I know there are some in here who can't stand him and trust me, I was one of you. I feel differently now.

On paper, Draymond checks LOTS of boxes. He could be the biggest cog we need in our defense.

A lineup of Dame/Powell/Roco/Draymond/Nurkic would be so GREAT defensively!

I know one thing, I'd rather have him than Ben Simmons...

Ben Simmons actually could be part of this trade as a 3rd team but that's on Morey.

Edit: I also think we should trade Roco and DJJ's expiring deals and maybe a future 1st for Jerami Grant. Editing the OP to include those:

But yeah, I'd trade CJ for him.

If Green is acquired through trade, and if LaMarcus is OK'd to play, i'd love to see the Blazers sign LA to back up Green.

Dray wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but I'd much rather have Simmons if he would want to be here, even with all of the extra cost (his contract and the extra assets to acquire him). The chance that we have as franchise to land a second possible superstar is not great but the chance that Ben Simmons in another situation is a superstar is pretty high actually and he's definitely an all star. If, until you know his shot is good, you just had him concentrating on scoring at the hole (roll man, slashing and posting up), making the right passes and doing what he does defensively. I think he'd be around 19, 7 and 7 with 2 steals and a block a game. He would either make teams stop doubling Dame or make them pay dearly. If he developed a shot and I know that's an if but if he did he would be a top three player in the league in his prime. The dude is 25. Just look at his numbers. The way he already impacts games. Dray doesn't do that.

If Simmons isn't an option then Dray does make us better in some ways but you're trading away your second option on offense and second best player for a guy that can't be that... not even as a slasher or roll guy like Simmons could be. So we trade our second option on offense and get back a guy who would be 3a or even 3b. That's a hard pill to swallow. His outside shooting having gone downhill over the last four seasons and him never being a very efficient scorer in general is pretty troublesome. Like I said, getting him for CJ would make us a better team because of fit but he's hardly ideal and I want better.

Do we have enough offensive firepower with a lineup of

Dame
Norm
RoCo
Draymond
Nurk

It's a great question. I think we're too used to seeing Stott's offense. It was largely predicated on 1 on 1 play and pull up jumpers.
It largely relied on bail out shots from both Dame and CJ. With much better ball and player movement I see this lineup getting easier shots and wide open 3s. I think both Nurk and Norm will up their scoring as well. We all know due to Stott's offense that Roco's scoring was down too.

probably not unless Little and Simons make historical leaps forward. But the Blazers are in a deep enough hole that it's probably unrealistic to think a single trade would make them a contender

As much as I love RoCo, I'd like to have a dynamic scorer at the three if we have Draymond.

Although maybe Little can be that guy?

Why would GS get rid of Green at this point? sure maybe after next year? They want to rebound from the last couple years and they are willing to pay tax penalties to make it happen.

I'm guessing you didn't hear what he said on his podcast?

It's a great interview and podcast. Makes me have an all new respect for Draymond.

I think they were tired of his act 2 years ago. Fresh scenery might do Dray good. If that trade did happen I would give Roco, Little, and Snell all a chance to prove who is most consistent with their outside jumper.

Lineup of:

PG Dame
SG Powell
SF Grant
PF Green
C Nurk
Without the Grant move, I think we lack the offensive firepower necessary to take the next step towards contention. I also don't think Dray for CJ is a fair trade with where their games are at now. CJ is the more valuable player. So I think we should be getting more than just Dray in that trade. All of that said, what the fuck do I know. Maybe Dame, Norm, RoCo, Dray and Nurk with our current bench would be an instant contender.

Yeah

But, he'd be ejected every game as a Blazer

There is NO DOUBT!, Ant & Nas must take a big step forward for the Blazers to succeed. The work they've put in this offseason looks great. They know what is expected from them, and probably look forward to showing everyone that they can contribute on a high level.

I get what your saying, and it has a lot of merit. But Mr. Nightlife ain't gonna dig being curfewed by Lil Ol' Rose City.

There comes a point in time when we have to accept that the pretty girl does want us. :dunno:

Like I said, if that's the case then so be it. If Simmons does want to play with Dame though... you make that shit happen.

That said, your plan isn't a bad one at all if Neil is ready to make two splashy moves.
