Great game tonight. I wanted to get in on the discussion but I've been really sick the last few days and I spent the game on the couch trying not to throw up. Great game though. ASU is a bunch of cheapshot artists.

Hey, will you shut up!

Huge Chip fan here...usually I'm defending him when the press does their little victim routine....but, seriously....Chip needs to get over himself. The fans are excited about a big win and doing what 99.99% of fans do...celebrating and cheering.

He came off like a douche on national tv and even showed the pressure is getting to him.

I think you'd get annoyed too if a bunch of kids were standing next to you screaming in your ear. It's rude of the fans.

I think he did overreact though, and Canzano is going to have a field day with it. There will be 800-1000 words about this tomorrow morning.

Great to beat a #18 team without your starting QB and MVP Lamichael James. Sun Devil fans might feel robbed by the fumble call, but we had a TD pass called back on a really cheesy chop block call. And of couse, they shouldn't talk much considering how short handed we were.

Bennett is so much better at scrammbling than Thomas. He's not quite Dennis Dixon, but he'll be a very good option QB, and I think he has a bright future.

I loved it!

"Pressure getting to Kelly, expect him to leave for the NFL after this season. Ducks will be mired in mediocrity for the next 20 years. :MARIS61: "

I definitely don't want another Masoli. He needs to work on his passing for sure.

They weren't yelling in his ear. They are like ten feet away with cops in the background. Its a post game field. If he wants a silent interview, he can find a room. He came off like a stressed out, self-righteous jerk. If I were a recruit or a recruits parent id be saying what an egomaniac and short fused ass he is...but that's just me.

Two guys came into the picture right before he yelled at them and they were only a few feet away, not ten. That's when Chip told them to shut up, and Erin thanked him for it.

He was on a short leash because he's a freshman with little experience. I think Thomas is a bit over-rated. He's not quite athletic enough for the option game. He's a decent QB who doesn't throw many pics. But he's not an offensive weapon in his own right like Dennis Dixon or a great pocket passer.

Thomas has his faults, no doubt, but he CAN throw. We haven't quite seen that from Bennett.

You said, "bunch of kids were standing next to you screaming in your ear."

They are not standing next to him and they are not in his ear. Nor are there a "bunch" of them screaming. Pause it at second 8 and if you are observant, you'll notice the size of one kids head who is yelling. His head is half the size of Erin's and Chips's - and clearly the officer on the right is closer based on his size in the picture. The picture shows an accurate depth of field and that they aren't next to Chip.

The def of next is "nearest or immediate" - and neither are true, nor is there a "bunch" which is defined as a "cluster and grouping." An accurate statement would have been that a few fans yelled in the background. Plus, "in" is defined as "occupying inside or inner" and they certainly aren't inside Chip's ear.

Try not to be so overly dramatic - like Chip.

"We haven't quite seen that from Bennett" - - then you haven't watched him in practice or you didn't see the Miso St game when Bennett had the highest pass rating out of all four QB's who saw action. He ended with a 276 rating and 2 TD's. As Sin noted, the play calling was conservative as far as pass plays go because a) the run game was productive b) defensive formations and scheme c) reasonable play calling that didn't want to force too much pressure onto Bennett. He's been extremely accurate and even coming out of HS his strengths were accuracy, arm strength and ability to scramble while reading down field and making incredible throws on the run. But, he only threw for over 2000 yards and 25 TD's his SR year while having a 7 ypc avg. In the Spring Game he completed 10/18 and Thomas only threw for 30 yards more.

Sorry Targus, but I think you are in the minority here. Bennett's high-school-hype is all well and good....but Thomas has proven he can get the job done on *this* level.

Couldn't agree more, Grouch. I guess we're all speculating what the Ducks would look like without Thomas. The comment was made of, "I definitely don't want another Masoli. He needs to work on his passing for sure." I'm not exactly sure what that means, since every player has areas to work on. Thomas has been great but statistically, Oregon is third from the bottom in total pass yards in the Pac and Thomas isn't in the top 35 nationally. One might be surprised to see similar stats in pass yards when comparing 2009 and 2011. (I'm guessing Thomas has a lot more TD's though)

Say we lose Thomas. It isn't his arm we'd miss. It's his experience and ability to run the zone read and call plays while reading defense. Thomas is outstanding at running this offense and exploiting defenses. That, Bennett doesn't have. The arm? He may just surprise folks.

It's posts like these that make me dislike you Targus. You do not know everything there is to know about the Ducks. You are not the end-all-be-all of Duck football and your arrogance when people disagree with you is downright offensive. I do not know everything about the Ducks, nor do I claim to. I don't get to watch the practices because I live in Portland and I have other things that keep my attention else where. If you want to nit-pick my every word, so be it, but my point was that there were at least three or four, possibly five people who were yelling. You can hear them on the clip. Maybe if you had ever tried to conduct an interview over the crowd noise you'd know how hard it is to hear, and that's without a bunch of yahoos trying to get on TV just a few yards away from you.

Try not to be such an arrogant prick - like Chip.

Wow, guess my 3am (east coast) humor bomb is a miss, huh? Thought it was silly getting into a definition debate regarding groups and clusters...

Never claimed to be all knowing and can recall several times posting I was wrong and even saying I'm more wrong than I'm right. Apologies if my personality rubs you so raw...it shouldn't be that big of a deal, dude. If someone tells me I'm in the minority, or I'm wrong - cool. If they take exception to my posts and lay into what I say...cool. Men have opinions. Let's talk/debate/share about it. I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong or see others perspectives. I love learning new things. But, to bellyache about not liking me and my arrogance or pretend that I claim I'm all knowing in Duck knowledge - well, that's just kinda creepy, dude.

It's a message board. I will make a note to myself to play gentle. Cool.

And the prick comment...so not necessary. Don't be such a sally...go re-read some of the back and forths with me and other posters (Tlong, HCP, etc.) and get with the game. This is all in fun man.

I'm not easily riled. This is something that has been rubbing me the wrong way for a while and I finally had enough. It's statements like these that annoy me.

"if you are observant

then you haven't watched him in practice

How could I possibly have watched him in practice? You don't claim to be all knowing, it's how you post. You belittle others opinions in a backhanded way. If I don't see what you see, I'm not observant.

This wasn't exactly called for either. Your attitude on this board rubs me the wrong way. If you think that's creepy, so be it. The Ducks obviously aren't as much of a passion for me as they are for you. I don't watch the practices or pay attention to high school stats because I only care about what they show me on the field during NCAA D1 football. There are people who are unbelievable in practice but can't show a lick of that talent during a real game. I'm not saying Bennett can't throw, but he definitely didn't display any passing skills tonight. I don't care what he's done in practice, I don't care what he's done in garbage time, and I definitely don't care what he did in high school.

BTW, you say the prick comment is out of line and then come right back and call me a sallie. Good on ya :twothumbs:

You Sir, are correct and extremely insightful. You have my sincere and unwavering apology for my aggressive personality. It is most likely the results of a miserable childhood and too many years spent working in law enforcement. I will genuinely attempt to find amends with my posts and conform to a style which you shall not find insulting, assultive, offensive, disrespectful, insulting; displeasing, abhorrent, abusive, annoying, biting, cutting, detestable, disagreeable, discourteous, distasteful, dreadful, embarrassing, evil, foul, ghastly, grisly, gross, hideous, horrible, horrid, impertinent, insolent, invidious, irritating, nauseating, objectionable, obnoxious, odious, off-color, offending, opprobrious, outrageous, repellent, reprehensible, repugnant, repulsive, revolting, rotten, rude, shocking, stinking, terrible, uncivil, or unmannerly.

Peace be upon you and may we walk in the strength of a Duck bond once again.

How much time did you spend on Dictionary.com exactly? Waste of time in my opinion. How about if I call you a Nancy instead? Any better?

I agree and support Chip. Those kids were being rude and he put them in their place.

One comment on the Chip situation. If that is how he reacts to his own fans....how is he going to react to the crowds in Seattle, or down on the Tree Farm?

Palo Alto fans I dont worry about at all. I'm fine with Chip putting some dipwit frat boys in line who are just trying to be obnoxious to get on tv.

@ NB -- call me whatever you want and post anything you desire. I'm man enough to take it and not interested in trying to control board communications.
I don't need to control other posters based on own esteem and I can choose to reply, read, pass over or respond to other posters accordingly.

Re Chip: I understand why he did it and I'm not siding with the kids. But, I do think he came off like an uncontrolled, self-righteous jerk on TV towards fans who were simply trying to share their team support in their own way. We've seen other coaches cheer along with fans, high five, acknowledge the fans or even in the interview say what great fans mean to the success of the team. As an outsider, I know how I felt about coaches like Knight or Leech when they did their self-righteous act...and I didn't like it. I thought it reflected poorly on the program. 99% of the time you'll find me supporting Chip, but we part company here. To me, losing control like that shows weakness, not strength.

He always comes off that way. That's chip. He's an arrogant guy. That just comes with the package. Like it or hate it, that's how the guy is and it reflects in his coaching. Do you think the team would be so aggressive and confident if Chip wasn't that way? Going for it on 4th down in your own territory is NOT something most coaches would do, but Chip is a cocky bastard and I love him for it. He coaches how I would coach.

He coaches how you would coach? You mean you'd be 0-6 too against ranked OOC teams? I kid! I kid! I kid! I love Chip. The kids love him and he fields a damn good and prepared team. I think he's getting a little off balance though.... Sure, fans and media can be obnoxious, but that's the show. He knows it. He can at least maintain composure and show some professionalism.

No, I'd have five or six natties under my belt :devilwink:
