This is very good idea. I'm not to much into this panic shit, but I'm not going to sign any autographs until futher notice. Fuck it. At least I can do something.
I think there is a fair chance that in some areas of the country games will be played in empty arenas to a TV audience only before the season is over.
Thatd be so lame...March Madness without fans? NCAA considers empty arenas for basketball tournaments amid coronavirus fears
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8071757/An-NCAA-Tournament-arenas-It-ruled-out.html
- The NCAA is not ruling out the possibility of holding the popular Division I men's basketball tournament in empty arenas amid fears of a coronavirus outbreak
- An advocacy group for college athletes has urged the NCAA to consider holding all of its winter sports championships without fans, including March Madness
- Division I men's basketball tournament games would likely still be televised
- The virus has sickened more than 92,000 people and killed 3,100 worldwide, mostly in China. Nine people have died in the US, all in Washington state
- Stanford and Chicago State's athletic departments have cancelled games due to the coronavirus. The virus cancellations are believed to be the first in the US
- The NCAA generates nearly $1 billion a year, mostly during the men's basketball tournament through media rights fees, corporate sponsorships and ticket sales
And smart. I don't think some people realize how bad this is because they just see the 3% mortality rate. If even 10% of the US population contract it, that's nearly 1 million people dead in the US alone. Controlling the spread is key.Thatd be so lame...
@SlyPokerDog I received my first email about the virus from the Olympic Committee. Letting us know all the different options for us working over there this summer. One of them is NO fans allowed to any events. We will be broadcasting the hoop games with NO fans in the stands. Closest thing I've ever done to that is some Oregon State games back in the day where there was more people selling popcorn, than people there to watch the game!

If you are correct, can my family and I come stay with you. I need to pay bills FAMS>Unless there's a drastic change, I don't see any way they let the Olympics actually happen.
I wonder how they would handle postponment. Would simply moving to 2021 work?If you are correct, can my family and I come stay with you. I need to pay bills FAMS>

Except that mortality rate is based on confirmed cases, and there's asymptomatic carriers and people with light symptoms that have the disease but will never be confirmed. Ive rrad that the mortality rate is predicted to be 0.7%...
The mortality rate is much lower for young, healthy people.
So essentially, dont go to a game if your sick, or if your at higher risk for health complications due to the virus. People will be smart or stupid regardless of if theres a crowd at sporting events.
There's a reason why the LA Marathon and its 500k expected participants and spectators are looking to postpone it this weekend. The NCAA is seriously deliberating playing tournament games in front of an empty stadium. This is going to be difficult but lets keep this thread about the Coronavirus and sports. There is a thread in the OT section but the medical and political parts of the virus.

I'm guessing that if the NBA were to think about playing in front of empty arenas they would just cancel the rest of the seasons. If they close the stadiums they would have to refund the cost of tickets sold out of pocket but if the season were canceled insurance would pick up that cost. The majority of owners would rather cancel the season then lose a ton of money.
Clay Bennett saw this coming 12 years ago?It seems likely that they would base decisions about allowing crowds to attend on local virus conditions rather than blanket policies. Right now, there are big chunks of the country that have no cases. It would be dumb to cancel tickets there. OTOH, in places where the disease is widespread, canceling games or tickets would make sense.
