It would just be another way (For what people call a scrub player to come in and pick on one of the other teams star players) to fire up your team.

Hockey isn't like that though....at least not totally. What Kermit and rudy did that was so wrong was join a fight he wasn't part of. if a player does that they should be suspended for months. However, if a player wants to throw down with another player, they should let them go. Handling it on the floor will cut down on cheap shots.

Ya I agree that it would cut down on ticky tack cheap fouls. It would make for more playing time for scrub players.

I'm not saying that it would be repeated. I'm saying that the fact that that punch happened will prevent the NBA from ever permitting anything that could possibly lead to anything remotely approximating that punch. They will always err on the side of caution.

Exactly. It was because there was no consequence that you got cheap shot players like the Detroit Bad Boys. Fuck, I hate Bill Laimbeer. Put him up against Mo Lucas in the 70s and he'd be crying at the end of the bench. Instead, he got to cheap shot anyone who got in the lane.

Well I don't think NHL style fighting in sports would be all that bad. You would have to make a no kicking rule and all shots above the waist. Really though I think it could help with cheap fouls and making it more exciting to watch. After all how many fights do you think would really happen? My bet would be not that many.
