Eating alone at a restaurant?

Do you have to have someone to eat with at a restaurant? I don't really cook at home so I eat most of my meals out, usually by myself since its too much of a bitch to schedule and coordinate meals with others.

To some people, its creepy and weird, but its kind of convienient versus having to grocery shop, cook, and clean. Plus the variety is better.

On business trips I do a lot. I generally bring a book. In fact, I used to just go to the bar at McCormick's around the country, but that tended to get more attention than I wanted. (See previous thread about getting more attention married than I ever did single).

Sometimes I eat out alone. If I don't feel like making something and don't want to socialize, I'll just take a book and go to a restaurant. I've always enjoyed lingering over a good meal while reading something interesting.

I don't like doing that. I rush when I am at home...at a restaurant, take my time. plus no dishes or garbage or smelly apartment.

Hmmm. The wife owes me a few favors. I was planning on cashing them in sexually, but a quiet meal to myself actually sounds better.

Well, I think having lunch alone is different that dinner. I mean, if you're at work and you just go for lunch, you bring a magazine, it's okay. But I think for dinner, that's usually something pre-planned with other people.

Ha, a guy I work with and I were discussing this recently. I flat out refuse to eat out alone. To me, it's the creepiest thing you could ever do. After this guy got more and more people to join in the discussion, it sounded like I was the odd one. I could picture myself eating alone when I'm 40 years old, but at 25, it just seems weird.

I eat lunch in my car with sports radio on, and if I don't cook, I'll get takeout and eat it at home.

That's not creepy, sitting alone in your car? Sounds a bit "lone gunman kills four," which is more age-40 than age-25.

Nah, I eat in my car stationary. A bunch of people I've worked with have done the same thing. I didn't realize it wasn't normal.

I actually have no idea whether it is or not. I don't know anyone who does it, so it seems strange to me. Why sit in your car? Isn't it less comfortable than a table and a radio/online radio?

I'm one of those people that likes to completely disappear from my work when I'm on lunch break. I don't want somebody to confuse me for somebody that's not on lunch or have to listen to people talk about work. I like to escape from there for an hour, and I think it actually makes the day go by quicker for me. Plus, sometimes when I'm not hungry, I'll take a nap in there instead.

Well, if the restruant has a bar, that's completely different. Sitting at a table alone is creepy, but at the bar, people do it all the time.

I like to be creepy though and eat by myself at a table.

I could give two shits whether people think its creepy to eat out alone or not. In the hour in between my two jobs sometimes I'll eat at a sit down restaurant by myself. I don't have the convenience of going home and I got tired of fast food about 5 years ago.
