Ed Davis: Stotts is probably the coolest coach who I’ve played for in my whole life

All these guys wanna stay here. Wes and Rolo did too. LaMarcus was the only one that didn't like Portland. It makes me wonder if we can use how much players like it here once they put on Blazer uniforms as a tactic to away free agents.

For us this talk about players not wanting to come here, we sure have players who like it here.

Watch. We will have a major push this offseason with Dame leading the way to try to find that right free agent.Dame will lead our FA recruiting with your sentiment.
Come join us, we are up and coming and you will never want to play for another team again. Top notch organization from top to bottom.

That has always been the case with Portland. Guys who are decent people with good values have almost always loved Portland...once they got here. It's always been the "getting them here part" that has been the problem.

That was long.

I had to laugh at the part when he said basically that playing for Portland he doesn't have to worry about the team bringing in another superstar to take his job. LOL

See, the players know.

Draft or Bust!

:)

Even Sheed liked being in Portland. There are only two players I can think of that didn't like being here - Oden and LMA. I suspect Crawford/Felton didn't like it here, but that's only a suspicion - and I can't blame Crawford for not liking to play under Nate.

Terry is very much a players coach. Just like Neil is a players GM.

And this is why we may just turn the tie in free agency. We have a players coach, a players GM, A top notch organization and Dame Dog is gonna lead the recruiting in the off season.

Especially Crawford. The guy has never played well as a starter yet Nate insisted on making him our PG. It was nuts, and though I wasn't a member then, I am willing to bet just about everybody here was screaming holy hell!!!

Ed Davis is the perfect backup big man. He plays great defense, uses his length to block shots, attacks the offensive glass with ferocity, and is so damn efficient around the rim when he gets the ball in his hands. We would be foolish to move him.

I think Jamal Crawford liked it here, hes from Seattle you know..

You know what was interesting... Jamal Crawford was on Colin Cowherd the other day... and he has been in the league for 17 years.. this year, he said, marked the first time he's had a coach for longer than a year.

Forgive my ignorance but why does everyone think the LMA didn't like it here? Didn't he re-sign twice?

And just in a short sentence for someone who was absent for that era, why did Jamal not like Nate? (Knowledge is power)

No. he re-signed once because he was an RFA, but he was unhappy with the contract. He left when his first opportunity to leave rolled around.

LMA didn't re-sign as an RFA though, he signed an extension. Never got a contract offer from another team. I think he was definitely upset he never got the max extension like Roy did, but he still signed one nonetheless.

Yeah, but I always felt like that was the beginning of the end for his relationship with the team. It was the first real manifestation of his pouty, childish, me-first attitude.

Because anybody who had ever played under another NBA coach hated Nate because he sucked at coaching.
In regards to Crawford, Nate tried to plug-n-play him in Roy's role when Roy was injured. Jamal was never going to succeed in that role, and he didn't. But Nate kept trying to hammer that square peg into the round hole.

Well yeah, he was definitely upset. The extension came pretty late too IIRC, near October-ish? A lot of people wondered if it would even happen.

He can't have hated it that much at the time though. He signed a 5 year extension, more common then for lesser players but still pretty rare.

I bet Roy and Outlaw loved Nate, but that's it.

I remember him being unhappy that Roy got the max and that he hadn't been signed yet. I sorta remember him begrudgingly taking the deal before the season started. I wonder if his heart condition scared him enough (at the time) to want to avoid playing without an extension.

I just kinda remember him sitting there at Fan Fest with this smug, pouty, bitch face during the height of the negotiations.

JR Rider certainly didn't like Portland.
