Just heard Nate interviewed on the pre-game show. Basically he said they were aware that he had THIS knee problem before they drafted him and that it would likely need surgery, but they wanted to let him go and see if he could make it without the operation ... I'm not sure what's worse A) that KP knowingly drafted a kid with a bum knee after the year this team had or B) that the medical staff, played the "let it ride" card.

You don't have to make it up, because the Blazers keep us fully stocked with this "stuff" year by year.

I didn't hear the interview, so I'm lacking context, but that sounds like the sort of non-sensical thing Nate says on a regular basis. I don't think he's good at talking and thinking at the same time... Facts tend to get a bit fuzzy.

Williams said he was in pain, but not the type we would normally associate with a season-ending knee injury. "It hurt, but it's happened to me before. I knew exactly what it was." Williams said he's suffered the "same exact injury" before and said, "it will swell up a little bit."

From Williams' description, it sounds like surgery was not absolutely necessary but rather a preferred choice to prevent future, larger issues with the knee. "It's an injury where after three or four weeks, you're good," Williams explained. "But if it keeps happening, a major injury can happen. So it's best if I just get it fixed now."

Seriously, this is the player KP targetted with that history? And the medical staff gave his selection the green light? That just strikes me as borderline bat-shit crazy.

Apparently Portland believes in swinging for the fences with their draft picks. If a very talented player has some kind of injury history that makes him slide in the draft, the Blazers are willing to pick him and take their chances.

Seems crazy to me, too.

I'm all for taking a flier from time to time (Nic, etc.) but with the amount of missed games this team has experienced because they have so many major knee, foot, or back injuries (Roy, Oden, Joel, Webster, Rudy and so forth) it just seems like you'd want to maybe start going for guys that have a history of robust health.
