I would be SO mad if I were a Clippers fan. He opted out to get a star for his team, they get Davis, then he ups and leaves for money. That's a shady move IMO.

ya but its not as bad as what boozer did to the cavs hahaha

Woot! Way to balance the power between the East and the West... The NBA is going to be a lot tougher next year... LA Lakers 2009 Champs

East Powers: Boston, Philly, Washington, Bulls, Cavs, Detroit, Toronto, Orlando
West Powers: Lakers, Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Hornets, Blazers, Utah, Denver

All these teams are playoff contenders.

hope we do something cuz every team in the atlantic is competitive... except for the knicks</div>

next year kobe bryant will exercise his escape clause and head to the knicks...lebron to the nets in 2010.
</div>

LOL... he'll never leave the Lakers

There's nothing shady about it. Brand did the smart thing. Not only did he get more money, but he also has a much better chance to win in Philadelphia than he did in LA, even with Baron Davis as a teammate.

Just when the clippers thought they took a step forward with BD they take two steps back losing Brand. haha

So...does this give us a better chance at signing Josh Smith?

omg that be great... hes the pippen to lebron being MJ

once again....this makes me extremely upset at our management. other teams get JO, EB, magette, soon to be posey.....we get....BOBBY SIMMONS....BRAVO NETS!!

i want us to do a BIG move....im sick of this waiting game

Neveruary 2010

Well I'm sure if the Nets had 15+ mill in cap space available they would have a chance at signing Elton Brand, or Corey Maggette.

I actually don't get this. The Clippers offered him a nearly identical deal at 81 million- didn't golden state offer 90 million at one point? If it's about the money, like Adande says, why not go there? This seems like kind of a fucked up thing for him to do- LA is clearly superior to Philly, and neither is going to be seriously competing for a ring anytime soon. What's so great about heading east that you're willing to sacrifice your image and embitter a fan base, and take 8 million less?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Moookabmoc @ Jul 8 2008, 10:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Where does that leave us?? .....I am very excited for the upcoming season, and I know that our final roster is far from set much like some other teams in the East. But I think it is going to be quite competitive in the "lowly" East as many saw it over recent years</div>

i like the competition in the east.... it leaves a senario where our young team can now play well, maybe even finish at or above .500 and still miss the playoffs, netting us a lottery pick.

On paper, shouldnt this make the sixers the 3rd best team in the east? Their athletesism is going to kill teams. they just need Kyle Korver back.

We are going to make a really big move.

We are going to trade VC.

That also puts more pressure on the Cavs management.

What's not to get? This is a win-win situation for Brand. Not only does he make more money than he would have with the Clippers, but he is also in a much better position to win. Even with Davis, the Clippers would've been a lower tier team with a limited chance to advance in the playoffs. Brand can make Philly one of the better teams in the East with a strong chance to advance. This was a smart move for him.

My 1st thought wasnt even how good it makes the Sixers(top 3). I just though it was a shitty thing to do.

Im not going to shed any tears for Baron, hes still going to make 50-65 million on top of the millions hes already made, but it still doesnt sit right.

Agreed. Even though it wasn't in writing, its still a bit 'Boozer-ish' for my tastes.

Aren't you glad we don't deal with this stuff in football?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (MarionBarberThe4th @ Jul 9 2008, 01:24 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Yea, but in football we get holdouts

Im not sure who has it right.</div>

Fair point. But at least with holdouts, the team holds the right to the player.... with this, even though Brand probably promised the Clips something....he went back on his word, and the Clips got screwed royally.

With holdouts, they may protest, but they almost always report back to the team (they don't want to lose money).

Who do you follow for basketball?

As much as I like Ed, Thorn is still the man.

This was simple deal. If you are $15 mill under the cap, all you have to do is throw the big $$$ our there and hope the player bites.

In this case, Brand took a look and said - Struggle in the West or have an easier ride in the East. Philly still not top 5 in East.

Boston
Pistons
Cavs
Wizards
Magic
Rap

Then you have to next tier:
Hawks w/josh smith
Heat
Bulls
76ers
Nets

Sixers are now better than all those next tier teams. Unfortunately for them they are now similar to the old Nets. Not much of a bench.

The parts that I don't get are (again): it wasn't more money- it was 82 mil vs 81 mil (unless you think that extra 1.3% is that big a deal) vs the 90 mil he was offered by the Warriors - and Philly has as much a chance of beating Boston and Detroit as LA does of getting past the Spurs and, um, LA.

Sorry if i'm being obtuse.

if i were him... i woulda gone to GSW and played with monte! i love how he plays... heh or even go back to the clips cuz they got baron... they did what u ask... get u HELP... and then u bail...

and for the record... nothin compares to what boozer did to the cavs LOL

Will the 76ers be able to keep iggy and lou williams with this signing??

if not please please grab lou will! dude is great!
