If it was me and my family I think I would follow rules and protocol rather than put my family in danger. I wouldn't care if it tool me 5 years to get in I would find a place to wait and respect their laws too. In doing that I would teach my kids there is the right way and the disrespectful dangerous way.

If you were on the Titanic and you knew there weren't enough lifeboats even for the women and children and your wife and children were at the end of the line do you think you might get pushy? It's human nature. The immigrants aren't even pushing anyone to their death in their bid to save themselves and their family. In fact, this reason is a legal basis for a Green Card. Let's let the applicants be adjudicated. If they're flight is a reasonable risk, then you keep them contained such that they can't get out before being adjudicated.
I've heard that 90% of those getting ankle bracelets actually show up for their hearing. I'll assume that 100% of those being confined show up for their adjudication hearing.
We are obliged both by Treaty to an international law as well as Federal law to accept all those seeking asylum regardless of where they crossed the border. Let's follow the law and let adjudication weed out the undesirables.

It is indeed up to congress to fix the immigration system. Completely agree with you there. Of course it would help if the President would stop trying to break it even more.
I do not think we should have completely open borders or that every person who crosses is a 'fine person'.
But I do not think those immigrants who are indeed fine people should be penalized for either our congressional inaction, or for our president's fear-mongering.

When I say those cases need to be adjudicated it pretty makes makes it clear that some of them being illegitimate claims is definitely possible.
Congress certainly has not been doing their job but that is a separate subject requiring a separate thread. Actually though, I think Congress had a viable solution but it was withdrawn by I believe it was Trump and McConn

Following U.S. and International law which we signed onto in a Treaty, is not what I would call open border unless you don't like the Treaty and want it rescinded. So far, Trump seems to have no stomach for rescinding the treaty but doesn't mind violating it.

Edit: I might add that the vast bulk of the immigrants are from Central America and not South America. Even so, I would think that most of those fleeing Venezuela would be legitimate asylum seekers.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Friday that the state has discovered 95,000 non-citizens on the voter rolls going back to 1996, 58,000 of whom have voted in at least one Texas election -- an announcement likely to raise fresh concerns about the prospect of voter fraud.

Texas has some of the toughest voter ID laws in the nation and has been one of the main battlegrounds in the Republican-led fight against alleged voter fraud. The office, in a statement, said that 33 people were prosecuted for voter fraud last year, and 97 were prosecuted between 2005-17. There are 16 million people in Texas registered to vote.

“Every single instance of illegal voting threatens democracy in our state and deprives individual Texans of their voice,” Paxton said in a statement.

The New York Times reported that the findings were a result of of an 11-month investigation into records at the Texas Department of Public Safety. Gov. Greg Abbott praised the findings and hinted at future legislation to crack down on voter fraud.

"I support prosecution where appropriate. The State will work on legislation to safeguard against these illegal practices," Abbott tweeted.

The revelation is likely to have national consequences and stir debate and the role of voter fraud. President Trump created a commission in 2017 to investigate allegations of voter fraud in the 2016 election. But it was eventually dismantled by Trump after the group faced lawsuits, opposition from states and in-fighting among its members.

Trump said at the time that Democrats refused to hand over data “because they know that many people are voting illegally.” Democrats have dismissed claims of voter fraud and accused Republicans of trying to disenfranchise minority voters with tight voter ID laws.

Paxton’s office noted that there have been a number of convictions of voter fraud in the state in recent years, including a charge against a non-citizen this month for illegal voting in Navarro County.

A Democratic New Jersey mayor resigned on Sunday after he was accused of interfering with the elections process.

Francesco Caramagna, the former mayor of Elmwood Park, stepped down after a complaint was filed earlier this month, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said in a news release.

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it has been informed that Los Angeles County has sent notices to as many as 1.5 million inactive voters on its voter rolls. This mailing is a step toward removing the names of voters who have moved, died, or are otherwise ineligible to vote. The massive mailing is the result of a settlement agreement with Judicial Watch requiring the County to remove as many as 1.5 million inactive registrations. In addition, the California secretary of state has alerted other California counties to clean up their voter registration lists to comply with the federal National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), as the secretary promised to do in that same settlement agreement.

All of this is the result of a federal lawsuit Judicial Watch filed in 2017 to force the cleanup of Los Angeles County’s voter rolls (Judicial Watch, Inc., et al. v. Dean C. Logan, et al. (No. 2:17-cv-08948)). Judicial Watch sued on its own behalf and on behalf of Wolfgang Kupka, Rhue Guyant, Jerry Griffin, and Delores M. Mars, who are lawfully registered voters in Los Angeles County. Judicial Watch was joined in this lawsuit by Election Integrity Project California, Inc., a public interest group that has long been involved in monitoring California’s voter rolls.

Under the terms of the settlement agreement, voters who do not respond to the notices sent by the County and who do not vote in the next two federal elections must be removed from the voting rolls. Secretary Padilla also agreed to update the state’s online NVRA manual in order to make clear that ineligible names must be removed and to notify each California county that they are obliged to do this. On April 11, Secretary Padilla notified Judicial Watch that this part of the settlement agreement had been implemented.


The agreement also required the office of the secretary of state to send a written advisory to all county clerks/registrars of voters in California stating that current federal law requires the cancellation of a registrant who has failed to respond to an official notice and who then fails to vote, offers to vote, correct the registrar’s record, “or otherwise have their eligibility to vote confirmed for a period of time including the next two general federal elections.”

The updated California National Voter Registration Act Manual, March 2019, conforms to this standard. In April and May 2019, the California secretary of state provided a training presentation to all 58 counties in California regarding the proper list maintenance procedures under the NVRA.

As Judicial Watch previously noted, Los Angeles County has over 10 million residents, more than the populations of 41 of the 50 United States. California is America’s largest state, with almost 40 million residents. The County had allowed more than 20% of its registered voters to become inactive without removing them from the voter list.

Judicial Watch discovered that California had treated the removal of inactive voters as permissive, not mandatory, and had not cleaned its voter registration rolls in at least 20 years. The Supreme Court affirmed last year in an opinion affirming a historic Judicial Watch settlement with Ohio that the NVRA “makes this removal mandatory.”

“This Judicial Watch settlement will result in the immediate and ongoing clean-up of voter rolls in California and LA County,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “This victory for clean elections in California will set another national precedent for other states to take reasonable steps to ensure that dead and other ineligible voters are removed from the rolls.”

Judicial Watch is the national leader in enforcing the provisions of the NVRA. In early January, Judicial Watch announced that it signed a settlement agreement with the State of California and County of Los Angeles under which they will begin the process of removing from their voter registration rolls as many as 1.5 million inactive registered names that may be invalid. That's astounding considering LA county has a little over 10 Million residents and a little under 50% are registered to vote. According to my calculations that means that up to 30% of that county's voters could be suspect. Nice catch, this has got to be in all the national mass news media tonigh, unless of course they're all conspiring against our hero, Trump.

Despite successful litigation by Judicial Watch to bring counties and states into compliance with the National Voter Registration Act, voter registration lists across the country remain significantly out of date. According to Judicial Watch’s analysis of data released by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) this year, there are 378 counties nationwide that have more voter registrations than citizens living there and old enough to vote, i.e., counties where registration rates exceed 100%. These 378 counties combined had about 2.5 million registrations over the 100%-registered mark, which is a drop of about one million from Judicial Watch’s previous analysis of voter registration data. Although San Diego County removed 500,000 inactive names from voter rolls following Judicial Watch’s settlement with Los Angeles County, San Diego still has a registration rate of 117% and has one of the highest registration rates in the country.

In the latest round of warning letters, Judicial Watch explains that implausibly high registration rates raise legal concerns:

An unusually high registration rate suggests that a jurisdiction is not removing voters who have died or who have moved elsewhere, as required by [federal law].

Judicial Watch also considers how many registrations were ultimately removed from the voter rolls because a registrant [had moved]. If few or no voters were removed…the jurisdiction is obviously failing to comply . . . States must report the number of such removals to the EAC.

Judicial Watch found major voting list issues in California, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, and Colorado. The following counties have excessive registration rates or have failed to cancel sufficient numbers of ineligible registrations:

4 LA men admit to Skid Row voter-fraud scheme, DA announces

Four men have admitted to offering homeless people in Los Angeles money and cigarettes in exchange for false and forged signatures on ballot petitions and voter registration forms, authorities said Wednesday.

Richard Howard, 64, and Louis Thomas Wise, 37, pleaded no contest last week to one felony count each of subscribing a fictitious name, or the name of another to an initiative petition and registration of a fictitious person, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

Christopher Joseph Williams, 41, and Nickey Demelvin Huntley, 45, each pleaded no contest to one felony count of circulating an initiative or petition containing false, forged or fictitious names.

Prosecutors said the group solicited hundreds of false and forged signatures on state ballot petitions and voter registration forms in Los Angeles's Skid Row neighborhood, a downtown area long plagued by homelessness.

They allegedly offered individuals $1 and cigarettes for their participation in the scheme during the 2016 and 2018 election cycles.

Howard was given a three-year suspended sentence and three years of formal probation. Wise received a suspended sentence of 16 months.

Williams and Huntley were each given three years of formal probation. Another defendant, Norman Hall, 62, was sentenced in February to a year in jail, formal probation and 100 hours of community service.

Richard Howard, 64, and Louis Thomas Wise, 37, pleaded no contest last week to one felony count each of subscribing a fictitious name, or the name of another to an initiative petition and registration of a fictitious person, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

Christopher Joseph Williams, 41, and Nickey Demelvin Huntley, 45, each pleaded no contest to one felony count of circulating an initiative or petition containing false, forged or fictitious names.

Prosecutors said the group solicited hundreds of false and forged signatures on state ballot petitions and voter registration forms in Los Angeles's Skid Row neighborhood, a downtown area long plagued by homelessness.

They allegedly offered individuals $1 and cigarettes for their participation in the scheme during the 2016 and 2018 election cycles.

Howard was given a three-year suspended sentence and three years of formal probation. Wise received a suspended sentence of 16 months.

Williams and Huntley were each given three years of formal probation. Another defendant, Norman Hall, 62, was sentenced in February to a year in jail, formal probation and 100 hours of community service.

North Dakota Democratic Party discourages hunters from voting, claims they could lose out-of-state licenses

The North Dakota Democratic Party is discouraging hunters from voting in the upcoming election, claiming they could lose their out-of-state hunting licenses if they do so.

“Attention hunters: If you vote in North Dakota, you may forfeit hunting licenses you have in other states. If you want to keep your out-of-state hunting licenses, you may not want to vote in North Dakota,” the ad says, linking to a similar warning on the North Dakota Democratic-NPL website.

“By voting in North Dakota, you could forfeit your hunting licenses. You MUST be a resident of North Dakota to vote here. And if you are a resident of North Dakota, you may lose hunting licenses you have in other states,” the website said.

The ad is linked to the Hunter Alert Facebook page which appears to have been created earlier this week. Facebook notes it was paid for by the North Dakota Democratic-NPL.

A spokesman for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department said it was not involved in the ad and didn't back the message.

“I don’t know what they’re talking about,” Robert Timian, the chief game warden, told Fox News.

He said he wasn’t aware of any similar ads in the past.

North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger also told political blogger Rob Port he’s never heard such a claim before.

North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat, is in danger of losing her seat to Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer in next week’s election. Fox News has ranked the race as likely Republican.

Last week, Heitkamp gave almost $2.7 million of her campaign cash to the North Dakota Democratic Party to help with other races in the state.

“Heidi Heitkamp is using her anti-Kavanaugh campaign coffers to suppress voter turnout in North Dakota,” Jake Wilkins, the North Dakota GOP spokesman, told Fox News, adding she’s “made it clear that she only cares about winning re-election, not helping her constituents.”

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s oldest son, accused the party of trying to suppress voters.

“Only the party that wants to take your guns could do something so untruthful to suppress the North Dakota vote. This ad is false,” he said. “Don’t let these liar Democrats get away with it.”

Republicans, too, have been accused of voter suppression ahead of the election. A new law requires North Dakotans to have an ID that shows a name, birthdate and street address to vote. But many Native Americans, who tend to vote for Democrats, say a street address is not always evident on reservations.

A federal judge denied a request from a North Dakota tribe to block the state’s voter ID law earlier this week.

Neither Heitkamp’s campaign nor the Democratic Party responded to a request for comment from Fox News Friday morning.

Abrams' foe Kemp announces probe into Georgia Democratic Party for 'possible cyber crimes' days before election

Republican Brian Kemp, Georgia's secretary of state, is investigating the state's Democratic Party for "possible cyber crimes" related to an alleged attempted hack on state voting infrastructure, his office announced Sunday, throwing a seismic wrench into Kemp's neck-and-neck gubernatorial race against Democrat Stacey Abrams with less than 48 hours to go before Election Day.

"Federal partners" -- including the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI -- also have been notified about the "failed attempt to hack the state's voter registration system" as of Saturday night, Kemp's office said.

"While we cannot comment on the specifics of an ongoing investigation, I can confirm that the Democratic Party of Georgia is under investigation for possible cyber crimes," Kemp Press Secretary Candice Broce said in a press release. "We can also confirm that no personal data was breached and our system remains secure."

In an updated statement early Sunday afternoon, Kemp's office added: "We opened an investigation into the Democratic Party of Georgia after receiving information from our legal team about failed efforts to breach the online voter registration system and My Voter Page."

The Georgia My Voter Page (MVP) allows voters who log-in with their first initial, last name, county, and date of birth to check their registration status and other information, including the status of any mail-in and absentee ballots. The MVP is managed by Kemp's office.

The new statement continues: "We are working with our private sector vendors and investigators to review data logs. We have contacted our federal partners and formally requested the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate these possible cyber crimes. The Secretary of State's office will release more information as it becomes available."

Suppressing the military vote

My husband has been in the U.S. Army for over 22 consecutive years. He has served in the Airborne Division, completed three combat tours in Iraq, and helped stand up a new Army cyber command. He is a smart man, and definitely my hero.

Yet, with all of his Army training, the military has failed to teach him how to create a U.S. Postal envelope out of a sheet of paper. Unfortunately, this year as a deployed soldier, that is precisely what he is being asked to do. In order to cast his vote on the ballot emailed to him, he must create his own postal envelope from paper and Scotch tape.

My husband takes his civic duties extremely seriously, so, of course, he planned to vote in the 2020 presidential election. He communicated with the proper channels and was told that he could receive his ballot via email. The idea of voting electronically was quite enticing, so my husband logged on and requested his military absentee ballot.

In response, he received SEVEN pages of complicated instructions, which are rife with inaccuracies, contradictions, and false assumptions. In at least two places, servicemen and women are instructed to insert their ballot into an envelope that does not exist. Plain pieces of paper are labeled as an “envelope,” causing great confusion to anyone attempting to vote.

Because votes cannot be cast via email, he was required to create an envelope in which he could mail his ballot through the U.S. Postal Service. It took three grown men with advanced degrees over an hour to determine that they were, in fact, being asked in these instructions to undertake an arts-and-crafts project to cast their votes. In the end, although still unclear, it seems as though the UOCAVA Act (the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Voting Act) allows airmen, seamen, and soldiers to be asked to create not one but TWO hand-crafted envelopes.

The inconvenience presented to soldiers, in addition to the confusion created by the horrible instructions, is an incredible impediment to military voting. Additionally, the emailed documents have no markings which prevent it from being duplicated. Any individual receiving one of these ballots could reproduce scores of these ballots and vote multiple times. This enormous breach of security can easily be exploited, particularly given the elimination of the requirement to check signatures on mailed ballots in several states.

In the end, my husband and the two other soldiers he consulted with decided the process was simply too confusing, so my husband decided to take leave and return home to cast his ballot in person. He felt he had no other way of ensuring that his vote would be counted.

Unfortunately, not every deployed soldier, sailor, and airman is able to return home to vote in person. And no one that we have spoken with yet has successfully executed this emailed ballot system.

Is this system any way of guaranteeing that our warriors are able to take part in one of the most basic freedoms afforded to Americans – that of voting for their Commander-in-Chief? Should Army ruck sacks be equipped with scotch tape and copy paper during election years? How many brave American service people will be unable to vote in this critical election because of a poorly planned and badly executed system of email absentee ballots for our military?
