So we lost J. Moore, played 1/2 the games AND Stemp, 4th line whatever player.

In place of those guys we added Yandle, best D in the NHL AND we added Sheppard who gives us some size and grit and faceoff ability.

To me it is fair to say we got MUCH better today. Awesome stuff Glen. Never doubt you again.

Best team in East.

Great day for sure. Sheppard could be big under rated pickup. Sounds like Sharks were using him too much playing 3rd line instead of just 4th and affected his play and face offs (he was 55% in Dec). Also some compare him to Winnick but only 26.

I can't wait to see Yandle really learn and thrive AV system. Our PP w Nash MLS Step Kreider and Yandle QBing. Wow

Also Chuck don't forget Sather got Zuc to take a fair 4/18 deal. I was really starting to think they were going to have to trade him....

Cigars all around. He put us in position, now the chips will fall where they may. All we can ask for is the talent to win it, and we have that. The SC is the toughest title to win, so being a fav doesn't mean a ton. Still need to win, and playing the Caps/Isles/Pens in round 1 means we can certainly be one and done still.

Funny listening to those dopes Milbury and Jones on trades. They liked the Yandle move I think but talked a lot about the fact they traded a #1 and #2 for him....and that they won't have #1 for couple years. Meanwhile in same breath seemed to praise Bowman for giving up #1 and #2 for a rental in Vermette plus that dinosaur Timonnen who is not only 40 he hasn't played due to blood clot. I get that Rangers included Duclair who looks really promising but they get Yandle next year too at only 2.6m. Yandle has much bigger impact then either of those guys plus he isn't a rental. Chicago is in cap hell no chance they resign Vermette but I guess Chicagos #1 isn't as important as NYs even though they will prob be very similar.

You can't always fleece everybody. You have to give in order to get. I understand in terms of the first picks but as Chuck has pointed out Hayes for example is just like a number one pick.

The team now knows they have to win now. No excuses (assuming Henrik is back healthy). The price paid was steep so they really need to get a Cup in the next 3yrs when the window is there.

For this to really be meaningful they had to have some good news on hank.... Because in a way they are right.. No first rounder in what 3 straight years plus giving up perhaps #1 or #2 prospect.

Agreed, and I think these moves show he'll be okay. If there was bad news on Hank I doubt they make the Yandle deal. Sather knows without Hank we have no shot. Plus if Hank was out for a longer time they would add a goalie. This tells me Hank will be okay sooner rather than later. I am hoping within 2 weeks or so.

Let's look at this deal a little deeper:

Moore - We have seen what he is. He does have upside. Maybe someday he can develop into that 2nd pair dman, but it wasn't happening here. That became clear I think. And our top 4 was locked in for a few years, so the chance wasn't going to be there anyway. With him getting a raise as a RFA this summer, I view moving him as not a huge deal. 3rd pair dman right now.

Duclair - This is the big piece. I think we all believe he has very good offensive upside. He could be a 30/60 guy down the road. Very well could happen in 2 or 3 years. Here is what we need to keep in mind though, he is not the big physical guy like Kreider. He doesn't have Miller's size or girth either. Now he can/will be special on O, but I don't see him as a solid two way player that physically can take over a game like Kreider. Plus we have Kreider, Miller, Buch, and Hayes still as young forwards with upside. Maybe the Rangers think Buch, who they want over here now, has more upside than Duclair...who knows.

Lottery protected 1st in 2016 - We miss the playoffs and Zona does not get the pick. So we are talking about a pick in the 20's somewhere (hopefully late 20's or 30 for our sake). Obviously this is a good chip, but we are not talking about a top 15 pick even. Let's remember that. And adding Hayes this past season really was huge and allowed us to have a "1st rounder" in 2014.

2nd rounder in 2015 - Another good chip, but whether it is our 2nd or TB's 2nd, the pick will be in the 40's, and could be in the 50's. Hopefully part of the deal says we can to pick which 2nd rounder we give them. Plus we get a 4th in 2016, which could be an early 4th unless in one year Zona does a total turn around. So maybe we lose 40 spots in this pick exchange.

We gave up a lot, but you have to give to get. We now have the best D in the NHL. We get Yandle for next year at a 2.6 mill cap hit. And outside of Duclair it will be hard for Zona to add a stud in this deal. Maybe Moore is solid. Maybe the later 1st will be solid. Maybe the late 2nd will be solid. But it isn't easy to get studs in the 20's and 40's.

For us, for our cup window the next 2 seasons, I think it was the right move. And don't sleep on adding Sheppard. He has size, he wins faceoffs over 50%, I saw SJ fans comparing him to Prust in terms of motor and how his teammates love him. I think he could be a good add as well.

Good point dump. No doubt McD and even Girardi need to step up. My hope is with this deal those guys can play less minutes and be fresher down the stretch and as we move through the playoffs.

I would guess Staal and Boyle will be a pair and Yandle and Klein will be a pair. Either of those pairs could play against tops players, so maybe we can keep McD/Girardi around 20 mpg. That would be a huge help.

The Rangers must have reason to believe Henrik Lundqvist remains on track for a return under the original four-to-six week timeline that would allow a return by the second or third week of the month. It’s not likely the Blueshirts are operating under blind faith here, either.

I say he is back within 2 weeks or so. Which gives him 3 to 3.5 weeks to get ready for the playoffs (March 21st would be 3 weeks until the end of the season). That would be perfect.

I think another thought by sather and the management team is that the value of draft picks may be watered down a little bit with the number of college players that weren't drafted coming out after college with experience and improved skills along with drafted players that weren't signed by their drafted teams. This makes getting an established player worth the risk of trading an unknown draft pick especially one that will be in the mid to upper 20's.
