well, the senate voted against it today. so, if its available, why not. use the system if it lets you or you get left in the dust.

There's nothing inherently wrong with earmarks. It's congress' way of saying, "we allocated $200M to spend on X." Whatever X is.
Read the article and you'll see that $200M was earmarked to settle an indian tribe claim in a bill that was sought by Obama and passed by the senat for the express purpose of settling claims against the government by indian tribes (and black farmers).
Where's the beef here?
Without earmarks, is congress supposed to hand Obama a blank check? "Here's $5B, go spend it as you see fit?"
How did they come up with the $5B number if they don't have an idea of what it's going to be spent on (and the cost of such things)?

If they're there, use them. Just like anything in life. I disagree with a lot of things, but seriously, if you can abuse the system you do it if its legal.

If the Bill were $5B and they made it $5.2B with the earmark, that's the problem. Or if the earmark has nothing to do with the substance of the Bill.
