Stewart catching AGAIN...Day game after a night game. Why on earth would he not give Romaine some playing time. I just don't get it. Can anyone help me understand. Is it because Kuroda is pitching?

I'm with you my friend, I'd really like to see this kid get a solid chance. And by chance I mean more then every 3-4 games.
 
You can't hide him. I don't blame Stewart, god knows he is trying his best. But I blame the people who wither use him or fail to replace him.

...if the Yanx had already thrown in the towel and given up on the season, yeah, give Romine some reps...but that is not the case.

C'mon 59 - knock it off. Stewart doesn't give any team a better chance to win. He's Chris Stewart - it's not like "if we play Chris Stewart, we can really win this game". He's a glorified bum, who provides no value. He is wrongly perceived to be pitcher's catcher, but that's what people say about most catchers who can't hit. Any other team would have found another answer for a catcher 4 months ago. I know the longer some of these rejects like Stewart and Overbay stay around, there is a false comfort level that they are the best options that can win you some games, but they are just warm (barely) bodies filling out a roster or lineup.

I posted the same sentiments vette. I don't blame Stewart, he is trying, but I blame the people who keep running him out there.

Exactly - Stewart and Overbay have been living the dream this year. Both would candidly admit that they have played far more than their menial skills and talent would warrant. I blame (drum roll) Cashman for this nonsense.

He really thinks getting a full year out of these guys as regulars? OK - I get it - some guys got hurt, but playing these guys this deep into the season is the equivalent of getting a flat tire (injury), swapping out the cheap spare from the trunk (Overbay/Stewart), but driving way too long on it before changing for a real tire (find something better).

Cashman has been driving on a spare tire most of this season, and has been too lazy to change it. Don't drive more than 50 miles on this tire? Hah - Cashman has driven 120 games on this spare tire.

OK 59, my point is this. Do we know what the full potential of Stewart is? I would say yes. Do we know what the full potential of Romine is? And I would have to say no. Now, he may not be anything great but he needs to play to find out. If he cost us games and he might, then look for a better answer than Stewart for 120 games. Look he is no Munson, but Thurm was in the beginning considered not sound defensively. But remember his quote. 'Don't judge me by my style, but by my results. Well Stewarts results are known, Romine, not yet. I leave you with this...

Munson batted .256 with one home run and nine RBI. He made 97 plate appearances, but drew ten walks and had one sacrifice fly, which gave him 86 official at bats, and allowed him to go into the 1970 season still technically a rookie.

...now is not the time to be starting a below average defensive catcher every game...Stewart is better defensively, and it's not even close...look at most any stat you want. Like I said, IF the Yanx had already thrown in the towel on the season I'd say yeah, let the kid get more looks, but the fact remains that the Yanx are still trying to squeak into a playoff spot.

Not sure I understand the issue you have with being taken out of context. You have clearly indicated a preference to have Stewart play over Romine, you clearly have stated that playing Stewart over Romine is a sign that the Yankees have not thrown in the towel and are going for it. Correct? My contention is that Stewart is not that significant to view him as being the difference between throwing in the towel and going for it. Now if the Yankees called up a 2B and benched Cano, or if they even benched Gardner and brought up some kid from the minors - then that would be a clear sign that the team was throwing in the towel - but Stewart? Sorry - him playing should never be viewed as significant enough for justifying this team still playing to win. He's Chris Stewart - stop making it sound like he counts, because he doesn't. And MB is right - we all know that Stewart's ceiling is 3 foot below the floor - we don't know what Romine's ceiling is.

...and from that you decided that I was somehow pimping Stewart as something more than he is. I simply stated that Stewart is a better option than Romine, and he is. It is about defense and catching is a critical defensive position, and Stewart is better, period.

...now, if you would like to debate who is the better defensive catcher between the two, I'm all ears. We can use virtually any stats you choose, even metrics if you like. But I doubt you will.

...for the umpteenth time, if you are going to quote me, at least be accurate.

Again - you can go back and give us the old 'that's not what I mean' rountine, but you did say that the Yankees have a better chance to win games with Stewart catching instead of Romine. Now, if I made that comment I'd back off it as well, because it's totally absurd. But you're the one singling out Chris Stewart as a significant measure as to whether this team's chances of winning games hinges on whether he plays or not. Do you really think Chris Stewart playing is a factor? Really?

So I guess if Stewart gets hurt tomorrow - this team's chances of making the playoffs takes a big hit. Chris Stewart is a blip, a bit part, an insignificant player, a hanger-on who is just collecting a paycheck, and who will be begging for a job next year. He should never be mentioned in the context of him playing improves the team's chances to win. If you think Vegas odds improve favorably on the Yankee win percentage in any game if Stewart plays instead of Romine - you have got to be kidding.

? ...it is not only a very simple statement, but a factual one as well. Did I say Stewart is a top shelf player?...no. Did I say that I wanted Stewart over Pierzynski (neither of us did) as our catcher this year?...no. Did I say the Yanx cannot do better than Chris freaking Stewart?...no. I simply said Stewart is a better option than Romine...and again, he is.

...the only way you can disprove what I in fact said is to provide some actual proof at stats that show otherwise, instead of just your opinion. Can you do that or not?...just say yes or no, because none of the other BS you've been spewing really matters when you get right down to it. So again, if you can actually disprove my statement with something tangible, fine. Otherwise, stop presuming to tell me what I meant.

There's nothing in my initial statement that is "reaching", especially not just because you said so...it was a simple statement that you alone decided to morph into a point that I never made...you did the same thing in the Reynolds thread, as well as many others, and you were wrong then too.
