The Portland Trail Blazers have settled on three finalists in their general manager search and hope to make a decision "soon," president Larry Miller told the Oregonian on Tuesday.

The three candidates, according to the report, are believed to be former New Orleans Hornets general manager Jeff Bower, Indiana Pacers general manager David Morway and Los Angeles Clippers general manager Neil Olshey.

I hope that they make the decision "soon" as well. Like by tomorrow before the draft lottery would be nice.

I don't care about that, but it would be nice to have a GM by June 28, which is the date of the NBA draft.

Since they could have had either of the first two guys already, I'm betting Neil Olshey is the pick.

Seems logical. What do we know of Olshey? I'd never heard of him until today. What's he done?

I think Olshey is using the Blazers as leverage to get a new contract. With the Clips picking up Del Negro for 1 more year today, I think they now re-sign Olshey. My guess is that the Blazers end up with Morway by the end of the week. The next shoe to drop will be a head coach. I wouldn't be surprised to see them hire Brian Shaw from Indiana if Morway does end up with the Blazers.

I think Olshey is too deep into it to use anything as leverage. Plus I don't think you want to use Paul Allen as a leverage tool after meeting him in London to interview for the job.

Hopefully if it is offered, he will take it instead of burning bridges.

Really? Really? Who are you and why should we care what your opinion is on this topic? Damn Rookies!

that article should make a lot of people happy. If we get olshey, eric gordon wont sign with us

Hope this gets handled soon so we can move on and worry about the draft.

Rookies have to start somewhere and they usually aren't blessed with an awesome job working with the team. We get it HCP, we all envy you, we appreciate your close proximity to the team, but for the rest of us here who read this site, this is the closest many of us will get to participate in discussions.

No offense is targeted to you, I think you do a mighty fine job, I enjoy your "road travilin' with big john segment," and you seem to do a mighty fine job with your production pieces. However, this is the closest many of us "fans" get to the team, and your "rookie with 14 posts" schtick is getting a little tiresome.

Norman put an entirely relevant post together, and with a diminishing fan base of the team I think this site could use a little new blood, so long as we "rookies" don't go full mixum (retard).

Brother, I was totally joking. I was hazed when I joined here and I have kinda' taken over that job........ no offense.

No offense taken, I know you grew up here and aren't a bandwagon fan, hell, I want to take my nephew down to the production site and meet you some night in the trailer (no homo, and no offense to crandc).

You bring a hell of a lot to this board and I appreciate your candor here, you're my insider, and I respect your authoritah!

Quick reported this a while ago. Get this shit done. It will be interesting to see if they offer it and one or all of them turn it down

Let me know ahead of time and I can definitely give you guys a tour. If you haven't noticed, I don't take this place too seriously. I enjoy the chats, this is the only forum I visit.

Only because you refuse to do the yard work for the mods in the other ones

My nephews only two, so it'll have to be at least another 3 years (that's the point they start caring right), but I'd definitely appreciate it.

Keep up the good work HCP, we all love and envy you, you've got the dream job, getting paid and getting to watch the Blazers, minus the family life implications.

What Olshey didn't say, but agents and other executives around the league have, is that he has a knack for internal salesmanship, for making a man like Sterling feel like an idea was his all along.

"If you don't have the trust of ownership, it's over," said one agent. "Neil, for the time being, has that trust."

It sounds like the Blazers read this article before talking about who they want as a new GM. That sounds almost exactly what the Blazers are looking for. Miller has talked about what they need and Olshey fits the bill for most of it. Experience, changed the culture of an organization, thinks both long and short term, and can convince an owner what he thinks is right. The Blazers probably would need to bring in a cap expert to help out. Olshey is a player personal guy although it sounds like he has some understanding of the cap.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear Blazers offer the position to Olshey in the next few days. Whether or not he takes it is a different story.
