I always prefered "Big League Chew" bubblegum...altho' there was a year, I preferred (no shit) to Chew Red-Man, and smoke a Cigar at the same time. Just one year, but NEVER on a ball field....!

I still love big league chew although I can't recall the last time I've had it....

Putting the entire pack of Big League Chew in your mouth is not a good idea.

My grandfather chewed brown mule tobacco so me being a smart ass kid asked him if I could try it. He broke off a chaw I put it in my mouth and that was the first and last time for that. Dykstra, I heard there were huge brown spots in the outfield grass wherever he played.

May God rest his soul! they banned chewing tobacco to us minors, don't understand why they didn't do it to all. do you think they wish they had?

I was unaware that it was banned in the minors, thanks for the info. And I do see less & less MLP using it. The loss of Gwynn seems like such an unnecessary waste.

You don't hear much about oral cancer but I can tell you first hand that its incredible painful. The man who was going to adopt me over 50 years ago (I still call him dad) is 83 years old & has gone through 3 major oral surgeries. He's currently going through radiation & chemo because he's to high a risk for another surgery.

I agree on that one Rick....geezus, I too knew a man, (not as close tho' as your proxy dad), who passed from oral jaw cancer.....after 3 surgeries, and no lower jaw, the sight of his face, was more than I could handle....poor guy, I felt for him....!

Yet, he never forgave himself, for what he said, "this horrid face, which prohibits me from going out in public" his last days. Enough alone to make me quit chewing, and that was hell.......28 years ago...

Didn't the film critic Roger Ebert just die from that last year? Talk about being un-recognizable. I didn't even know it was him.

LOL...

At 15 yrs. old, During a visit to my Aunt and Uncles, in Goodland KS., my older Cousin broke off a piece of Plug Tobacco, and we chewed, my 1st time with chewing tobaccy....

30 minutes later, I was green faced, laying on the grass behind the barn, (literally), rolling over only to puke, heaving unlike any poison to ever enter this body....

I swore I'd never chew again....10 years later, Red Man, and Leif Garrett became my friends for a few years...so I lied to myself.....however, I have NEVER EVER tried Plug Chewing Tobacco again, or since then....!!!

yes, it was, and someone posted a link to his pic, a horrid horrid way to go....the pic was barely recognizable of Ebert....not the way to go....!

Now what was the source of that "Brown Mule" tobaccy, southern tobacco, or well....Mule essence...LOL...(sorry can't help myself Michael), (place missing "pulling the chain" emoticon here.._____).

Geez, I can vividly picture the other Team's CF'er, making a face first sliding catch in CF, after Lenny was roaming around out there, creating his own swamp of juice....! Now that would be horrid...!

That picture should be shown to every player who's chewing that shit.

Pastafazul....Good to see you back, after the Cup....! Noticed you spent some time on the Rangers board....3 of those 5 games, could of easily gone either way, and the Ranger's should hold their heads up high....!

It bothered me to see Lindqvist, with his head held down on the bench, all alone after Game 5....!

Lindqvist was excellent, and I thought, he himself deserved the Conn Smythe...just like Ron Hextall did in 87 with the Flyers, who succumbed to those Great Oilers-Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Clark, Fuhr, McSorley, (and a ton of others)...Oilers....

I totally agree....imagine seeing a pic like that, at a tobacco shop....!!! That's exactly where they belong....! This coming from a ex-tobacco smoker of 35 years....!

I smoked for almost 40 years & it took a heart attack & a quadruple by pass for me to finally wake up. And that was almost 6 years ago.

Smoking is one horrible addiction, to say the least, perhaps the very hardest thing I've ever had to do, quit smoking.

I bet you count your lucky stars, after that Heart Attack, no doubt, glad your still around, my friend...!!!

I smoked about 5 years, but never had it bad.... It was at most a half a pack a day of Marlboro Ultralights or Lights.... Quit at least 9 - 12 months before my oldest was born and did so cold-turkey....

My condolences and prayers to his family and friends.

Damn cancer. Medical world needs to stop dawdling......
It struck my family in 1974, 1992, 2006.

I've very sorry to hear that Lion...! My condolences to your family...!

A horrible way to go, when I think of it, I've known approximately 2 dozen peeps, over the years, mostly friends who've passed from this god forsaken cancer...!

I think most people here have lost at least someone they loved to cancer...!

In the mid 80s, in a small rural town in the Mojave Desert, (Rosamond, CA.) went thru a Cancer Cluster scare....end result....16 kids, aged 2-18 died from the result of hazardous waste from the gold mines....arsenic, nickel, cadmium, (a few other poisons), leeched down from the buttes, into their desert yards. One kid simply ate eggs every morn for a year. A Local H.S. Football star, developed Brain Cancer, the culprit, the chickens were eating feed from the tainted sand, which left traces of those chemicals in his eggs.

Other kids, simply drank bad well water, also tainted with those chemicals....It got so bad, we couldn't use our showers, let alone drink the water. (Water is a big issue here in the Desert, never enough of it).....some water taps had pure black slimy oozed pouring out...They say, one absorbs up to 2 cups of water, simply by taking a shower or bath....

It was a State, and County Fiasco, as they scrambled to find the sources, and provide sufficient clean water sources, to re-route to 5,000 homes and families...

As well, being a rural community, traces of DDT were damn near everywhere....

Hardest thing in the world is to watch a infant or young child/kid, dying of terminal cancer, because some ass hole didn't do their job, when doing soil samples prior to building residential tracts/homes, and ranches.....!!!!

It made National News, and scared the hell out of us....!!
