ESPN: Portland among "favorites" for Dwight Howard in Free Agency

I'm closely watching the Raps/Pacers and Hawks/Celts because I think there's a good chance Toronto or Atlanta could blow it up if they're knocked out.
Atlanta definitely, Toronto is hard to read. The only players I can see them letting go are DeRozan and Biyombo (not counting older guys). They have a lot of good young guys that can match well with Lowry, Valanciunas (?), Carroll, and Ross.

Look at everyone else though. Maybe they were cautious to celebrate because the Warriors are known to make redonk shots to win games.
The whole team lacks the passion and killer instinct of a champion.

I think they were all pissed they realized they had to change flight plans for the off season.

That article makes Harden seem like a total douche, an aloof prima donna and a horrible teammate. It makes Howard seem like an overly sensitive has-been.

The author of the article, Calvin Watkins, is a douche. Like Canzano, he tried and tried to find something wrong with Howard. Then he listed some random teams, including Portland, thus this thread.

Olshey doesn't want Howard because he knows that Lillard can't grow a beard.

Their best player is Lowry and he's playing like crap. It's one thing if you're Portland and your roster is young, inexperienced, and only has one year together. If you're Toronto and your core has been together for multiple seasons and you had one of the best records in the conference, it's extremely concerning when your 30 year old All-Star is playing like garbage.

I agree it doesn't say much about the team in general. Even if G.S. has a chance to win the game after that, you'd think there would be at least a little happiness after such a big shot.

I've said this in previous threads.
90% of the time when Howard is open he doesn't get the ball.
They won game 3 vs the Warriors in large part because they were looking for Howard while in the flow of their offense.(drives for lobs, mismatch after P&R)
The Rockets struggle when their analytics take over and they tell career sub 30% three point shooters to jack it up.
Josh Smith was 23 of 85 from deep over the 23 games he was on the Rockets this year...
Corey Brewer was 61 of 224 from deep over 82 games this year. Has he still not made a three since March 24th?
DMo was 16 of 57 from deep over 37 games
The sad thing is I could keep going...

Howard should be a professional and do the little things like he is being asked to do.
But how long can you in your professional life could you watch someone make mistakes that hurt your ability to do your job before you got annoyed?
I'd argue that Howard has a lot more left in the tank than it looks like. I might be wrong about that..
But I still see a player who defensively makes his team much better while on the court. The Rockets are worse when he's not there. As sad as that is.
The stats at the very least back that up.(even though they're short of his career averages)
As well as a player who still has enough athleticism to create mismatches offensively.

Plumlee is better for our offense but I'd take Howard off the bench. Don't think he'd want that though.

Howard and Dirk off the bench for the Blazers next year.

And of course Durant starting at SF.

Do it Olshey! ;)

It's tough to imagine Olshey paying Howard the money that he will want for as long as he will want it. Also, the health thing has to be an issue. Not a fan of signing players over 30 for big money.

Hell no; his rebounding stats are worse than JJ Hickson because he doesn't box out nor help teammates. Houston is ranked 30th of 30 teams; yes dead last in the NBA for defensive rebounding rate. He's only going to get worse.

Aging stars are the most difficult players to coach or fit in to a locker room. Why would we want to bring in any main piece from that Houston disaster? The key to our team was young hungry unselfish players trying to prove themselves in the league. Dwight is the opposite of all of those.

When has any Olshey move been leaked to the media? If anything this shows me we have no interest in Dwight.

The guy is done; his back is so bad he can't bend over. It's going to get worse before it gets better. Stay away.

Why is everyone blaming Howard for Houston bad play. I blame harden for Houston problem the player that about himself not about the team. Howard get the blame on defense because he trying cover there superstar that play no defense. Would i sign Howard yes but not for max.

This goes back to his getting Van Gundy fired and then being a Laker which was the worst of the two offenses...playing with Harden and Kobe would be tough in any universe

At the risk of sounding like BGD, PA didn't allow so much cap space to be cleared for a last chance at a big free agent signing before Lillard's and CJ's future deal go on the cap to sign Bismack Biyombo and Cole Aldrich. If Dwight Howard is the biggest name we can get, I think he'll be here.

Olshey will get someone on Dame and CJ's timeline. Even though I not a huge fan of overpaying the guy I am guessing that person will be Harrison Barnes.

I agree. Think big!

Do you want a name or productivity on the court?
