OT ESPN removes Rachel Nichols from NBA programming, cancels 'The Jump'

She worked her ass off to get where she was. And she was good at it. She will land on her feet.

I never understood why what she said was so wrong.
I liked that show…shitty move

I’d be hard pressed to have one, but I’d love to have a rational conversation with someone that is in the cancel Rachel crowd

TV personalities get paid big bucks. Nichols made 10 million. Did she work hard for it....sure. But she had a good run and was lucky she lasted as long as she did.
Why should she get to hold on to her million + salary forever? I certainly never tuned in to see her. Thousands of others could do what she did.

ESPN is in the entertainment business whose main demographics in prime time I believe are males 18-34. And most young men prefer to watch good-looking women. You can call it ageist or sexist if you want but she probably got the job in the first place over some fat ugly woman or man because she was appealing to viewers. Again I am not saying she did not work hard nor that she did not deserve what she was paid.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and by most accounts, Maria Taylor is not only talented, athletic, and knowledgeable, she is also hot. She will bring in more viewers and will get paid well for it. And when she gets old or fat they will find someone else. Holly Rowe is one of the few exceptions to this "rule". Really good-looking people (who are also smart and talented) have a huge advantage over those who are not.....no matter what color their skin is. Sex/Beauty sells. That is a reality. Rachel will take her 10 million and find another high-paying job. Not too sad for her.

What she said that leaked on camera may not be the whole reason she was taken off the air....there was an alleged incident with Jimmy Butler in the bubble that put her in the news....removing her show in my view is their version of damage control...we don't know but they can fire whoever thay want....

like what? Like they banged? Or got into an argument?

I hope she sues the shit out of them. Not sure she’ll win, but what exactly did she do other than tell the truth

I mean, what would she ask for in a lawsuit? From what I’ve read, ESPN cancelled the show but is otherwise honoring her contract (aka paying her).

I suspect she’ll land a gig elsewhere.

I dunno? I just think it’s bullshit

Creating a hostile work environment can get you fired. :dunno:
The person who shared what she said in private was the one who created whatever was created though…. Right?

Seems like an overreaction by some created the hostile work environment. IMO anyway?

beat me to it. However you claim burnt to the bone. i find it humorous you are correcting someone with facts but insert something nonfactual in the process. No where did it say she was burnt down to the bone. It was in her lap. Her legs needed skin graphs but she wasnt burnt down to the bone as far as i have read…

In some areas, the burn went as deep as subcutaneous fat, muscle, or bone (photos are not for the faint of heart).

Come again? :)

(stupid fat fingers!)

Different article. And no pics. I was looking forward to my heart fainting.

She was literally punished and fired for nothing though. This isn’t something frivolous
Where have you read that she's been fired or even demoted? I haven't found that anywhere. She just isn't a part of the NBA coverage anymore. That's not punitive in my opinion.

Even so, when it's exposed that you don't hold the same views as the private entity that you work for, they then have the option of taking the PR hit for continuing to employ you.

Don't blame ESPN. Blame capitalism.

She belittled a person's abilities only for being black. Now she's experiencing detriment because of that. :dunno:

ESPN gets to decide whether or not she continues to be platformed as someone who they feel has hurt their brand.
