I'm not a subscriber, so I'm hoping that someone who is will kindly relay whatever nonsense they are spewing now.

The title is a little misleading. I read it thinking "shit, he's never coming back?!?!"
Nothing we didnt know already.

Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard spoke with The Portland Tribune about a bunch of topics concerning the team. Asked if Greg Oden could return at the end of the regular season, or for the playoffs, Pritchard said he didn't think so.

"Its a long shot at best," said Pritchard. "We've always been cautious with our guys. We'll continue with that, especially with Greg. He's pushing hard, as hard as I've ever seen him working. He sees a little carrot there, and I'm not going to tell him he can't. But we'll be very cautious."

Yeah - who honestly believes there's a chance in hell of Oden coming back before next season? We all want it, but we'd all be crapping our pants every game, especially after what happened with Webster last year, or what happened with Roy's hamstring.

I knew it. Remember a few months ago when KP said "we're not ruling that out"? There was no way in hell they were going to let him back out on that floor this season. Another injury, another summer walking around on crutches instead of working on his game, another round of Sam Bowie puns - that would be devastating for Greg, the Franchise, & the Fans.

He's not doing any Team USA this summer is he? I'll be holding my breath if he does.

Odens return before end of season was always a pipe dream at best. Comon man. :ohno:

Just leave already! You never cease to amaze me with your negativity. I hope you don't apply that same attitude in the rest of your daily life. Why don't you step, everybody on here is tired of your shit.

The ignore feature is your friend.

Use it to stop feeding the troll.

I'd be PISSED if they let Oden play this year. I might even get on the medical staff hate bandwagon...

If he's ready, I wouldn't be opposed to it. He could make a difference in the playoffs and getting some experience would be good.

I wouldn't be in favor if there's any increased risk of injury, of course...

Ed O.

The recovery time was 4 months which puts him about two weeks before the playoff starts. I'm guessing at the end of that 4 months is when he'll be cleared for full contact basketball activity, but I could be wrong. It may just mean he's ready for real conditioning instead of rehab work.

And the troll bags another victim.

The reason I reacted that way is you are cracking on a really good friend of mine who is going through a rough time. That's why. He's a good person who is injury prone, and a true Blazer fan could probably see that. Also, you'd think a true Blazer fan would support his favorite team's injured players.

Risk >>> Reward ... IMHO

He would be working his way into shape leaving him susceptible to other injuries. There would be a serious disruption of any chemistry and rhythm the team has managed to develop. This would NOT be erring on the side of caution so it would be a change in philosophy when dealing with Oden's injuries.

Emotionally it would be awesome, but I don't think I could handle it if it went wrong...

But the net result of your reply is that we get more posts from the troll about Oden...

And then we have to read ESPN today:

Durant is clearly having a better season than any other big name in his conference, including Carmelo Anthony; Dirk Nowitzki; and, yes, Kobe Bryant.

If MIXUM used "the n word" would he get banned? You are aware that "gimp" is a very offensive word - up there with "***". So maybe he can just shut the fuck up with that shit? Just a little?

I don't see a problem with Oden coming back if he's healthy. From all accounts, there's a pretty well-defined time that this injury takes to heal....it's to bone, not ligament or tendon....and there's not a whole lot of downside. I mean, let's say worst-case scenario happens and he breaks it again on the opening tip of the first game back and is out another 4-5 months...he's still got 2 months to work before the regular season starts. :dunno:

If he's NOT healthy, don't play him. Pretty simple.

Here is my problem with your statement. If you are over an injury, you are over it. Being over it now, is the same as being over it later. Has Greg taking forever to come back ever paid off without him not getting hurt? If everything perceived is correct, these injuries he has had, have nothing to do with each other. So what does use does having him wait to come back and play serve if he is ready earlier than that? It's not like this is a torn muscle or a blown ligament. This is a broken bone. If it is healed, it is healed.

If it is healed, it is healed.

I agree 100%

Other than the caveat of having the medical team that allowed Marty to play last year only to re-injure his foot 8 minutes in, I am 100% behind GO coming in the game if he is healed and in game shape.

Would be nice to get an outside opinion on that, however...

I'd go along with this except for the muscle atrophy that resulted from Greg being in a cast. Obviously, getting muscle mass and tone back is going to be required in order for him to play at a high level and not risk reinjury due to insufficient muscle support.

That said, I'm sure that the Blazers are going to be very cautious with his return. However, if he's ready to go buy the playoffs, he's ready to go.

He wouldn't be anywhere near effective playing at arond 50%.

He'd need the summer just to get back up to speed.
If he did play, at less than 80%, no doubt the risk of re-injury would be increased, and the returns would be marginal at best.

Just not worth the risk.
Hopefully the big fella can come back better, faster, and more durable. (Paul Allen should make him his six Billion dollar man)

Playoffs aren't a lock for anyone until you see an 'x' next to a teams name in the standings.
