ESPN2: Avery Johnson says Blazers are legit

I guess that's why I asked.

If you need Avery Johnson to validate your hopes and dreams for this team then it just smacks of desperation - clinging to anything that confirms your own biases.

Word to the wise people, pick better "experts" and be wary of hacks even if they are saying nice things about the team.

Are you a fan of the Blazers? Because I honestly can't ever tell.

Strangely enough, I'm actually pretty encouraged with how Lillard is playing. I think he's taking the hits from some good scouting and scheming against him, and still holding his own, even if the shooting % is rough. I think this is his sophomore slump part of his season, which ain't too shabby!

wowowow our big 3??

last night avery Johnson said that we are for real because we now have a big 3 of LMA, dame and WES. i kind of shrugged it off thinking....well avery probably meant batum or just doesn't watch our games or..or..or i don't know.

i jus happened to be watching PTI and wilbon and kornheiser say we are for real because we now have a big 3 of LMA, Dame and WES!!!

wtf...is this the twilight zone?

is this reality???

Re: wowowow our big 3??

Did somebody really say it, or is it true?

Yes and no.

Re: wowowow our big 3??

Wes has averaged around 15 since he got here, peeps are just now starting to realize I guess

Re: wowowow our big 3??

That should just make us a team in the mold of the last Pistons championship team. Lopez doesn't quite fill the Ben Wallace roll, but will have to suffice.

Re: wowowow our big 3??

The team reminds me a lot of the Jazz teams that had Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer on it. Not a ton of talent but a couple of good players surrounded by a glue players. But Stotts, I didn't think was a Sloan kind of coach. His team is really playing well and he is managing it perfectly so far.

Re: wowowow our big 3??

Yeah i don't see how you can leave one out. Sure there is a pecking order of who may be most important, but why would we need to mention it? We need all 4. The Big 3 whoever they are, are not big enough......but all 4 of them seem to work pretty well. Not that you can slight Mo or Robin either.

Re: wowowow our big 3??

We've never had a "Big 3". Still don't.. And that's fine.

Re: wowowow our big 3??

This is one of the reasons the skeptics are doubting us. Conventional wisdom is that you need one or two stars/superstars. I've seen same thing before with the Drexler Blazers, and the same thing that happened then will happen now. We'll start winning big and they'll decide that Lillard and LaMarcus ARE superstars, and then they'll be surprised that we didn't start winning earlier because of all of our talent. sigh.

Re: wowowow our big 3??

Lillard-billups
Wes-rip
Batum-tayshawn
Lma-sheed
Lopez-big Ben

close enough

I’ve always thought Wes was a superior player to Nic but I realize many believe differently. I bet most agree they are very close though.

Well yeah I guess Lopez isn’t QUITE a four time defensive player of year who lead the NBA in rebounds and blocks…… The only similarity is neither team has a superstar. Rasheed was one of the best defenders in the game who always played about even against Garnett or Duncan. That Piston squad is probably the best defensive team of all time, our team is hoping for an improvement so they can become an average defensive team. The Pistons held opponents to 69 or less points for 5 straight games. They held their opponents to 89 or less points in 24 of their 26 final games.

Interesting. Yes I see the similarities, that is a very good comparison. Batum is somewhat like AK47.

I believe Wes get's the most out of what he has. I think Nic has another gear or two we rarely see.

I don't agree. Nic is clearly the superior player. Wes can't be our point guard for stretches like Nic can and his ceiling isn't as high as Nic's offensively. He makes the most of his talent and plays damn hard, though. He deserves his paycheck.

We have a Big 3 if you combine Nic and Wes. It's LaMarcus, Damian, and Nic/Wes.

Anyone else find it nuts that Sheed in his prime could guard Duncan and Garnett, but he's out of the league and Duncan is still tearing it up? It's unreal how Duncan is.

Sheed was in the league three years before Timmy...

But yeah I think the fact Tim has won three championships says something about him but the fact he is still playing a pretty high level is a testament to him.

4, actually. His first with a completely different squad than his last 3. I loved the old Duncan/Robinson twin towers team. Second fave of the era after the Jail Blazers, of course.

Yeah we need a new catchphrase. The BACK DOOR FOUR! Hmmm that can't be good... the PORE CORE FOUR. The no whore four!.

The score four core. The rain train four. The lightning rod quad. Gosh I need some help with this.

He's won 4, came damn close to winning his 5th last year and the Spurs are off to a 10-1 start this season - frickin' amazing! That team, and the league, have gone through so many changes over the last 17 years, but the three things that have remained the same: Tim Duncan, Greg Popovich and winning at a very high level.
