<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Some Essex County heavyweights want the Izod Center shut down, saying it competes with Newark's new Prudential Center.

"They have [the family attraction complex] Xanadu, which is supposedly going to provide 20,000 jobs," Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo says of Bergen County's Meadowlands Sports Complex. "They have the Giants and Jets stadium, they also have the racetrack."</div>

Damn straight its time to close that god forsaken place!

So they want it closed because they're going to be competition? wtf?

the state technically operates the Izod center. Economically, it would probably be better for Essex County and New Jersey if they "spread around the money" and eliminated the Prudential center's prime competition. Really with Xanadu and New Meadowlands stadium in that area.....do they really need an out dated, crumbling airplane hanger?!

It figures that finally after 10 years of barganing and arguing that when New Jersey gets something as amazing as the Prudential Center, the thing that would go the best in it is playing in an old outdated arena up the Turnpike.

The fact that the Devils and Seton Hall are selling out games is an indication of just how much the Nets would benefit by playing in Newark, if only for the next two years.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band can't play in Newark in what Bon Jovi's manager called the best arena acoustics in the country because of the Izod Center.

Politics as usual.

It's not going to close I bet. Didnt the Nets extend their lease there until the move to Brooklyn is finished?

Oh God I hope the Nets move to the Prudential. The Izod is just horrible. All the construction in that area is making it inconvenient for fans (thus drawing them away from watching games) and people are forced to park at Giant stadium and walk in the freezing cold tunnel-walkway thing they made. Why didn't they move when Prudential opened? If it is because Rat wants to avoid excess spending because of the Atlantic Yards project then that makes no sense because you'd be making money from selling more tickets. I would surely go to more games if they played at Prudential.

Makes too much sense for the Nets to play in Newark, so of course it won't happen.

I really dont see how the marginal profits (if any!!!) the Izod center brings in can justify the operating costs the state puts up. If ratner was smart he'd work out some kind of deal with the NJSEA to let the Nets playout the remainder of their lease in the Prudential Center.

If they play in Newark I can safely say I could go to around 15 more games next season.

same here. I may even think about becomming a season ticket holder if I have the money too.

Close the dump. Only good thing in the NJ Meadowlands is the sign on Giants stadium that says home of the 2007 super Bowl champions.

The nets need to move as far as way from NY as possible.

last time i was in newark it was for the vince carter signing and i was threatened by some guy who hates white people, saying he was going to stick us up(all white people in line) calling us dogs

he reminded me of uncle ruckus from the boondocks, except opposite views

Rock is in one of the best parts of Newark, if not the best.

Easy to get to, nice. Parking is a pain and the Traffic cops are jerk's ( the one said get hit by a car see if i care on route 21)

But the place is great, nice, safe area, easy to get it to.

It beats anything Crooklyn can give.

Oh yeah, did't you get a parking ticket too in Newark?

^I think it was Bloomfield I forget^ but I really hope we move to Newark then I'll definately get season tickets plus I get my liscense in 3 months so I'll be able to go

You dont want to drive there, that is one of the worst places to drive in the state of New Jersey.

I've been down to the Rock a few times and either when I went with my Father or ZAE, we never had any problem. Traffic was pretty good and parking was one block from the arena.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>He also blasted the state agency that runs the Izod Center for sign ing an agreement with the Nets that imposes fees up to $12 million if the team moves anywhere other than New York City.

"That, to me, is beyond belief," DiVincenzo said, addressing a gathering he called of about 50 people, including city council members, county freeholders and state lawmakers. "How can they penalize the Nets for coming to Newark?"</div>

So our own state is going to fine the Nets millions of dollars if they move to New Jersey's largest city instead of New York? That's so embarassing for our state I can't even quantify into words.

Is it easy to get to the Prudential Center from NYC? How long does it take? I assume I have to take NJ Transit from Penn Station?

even the espn hockey analyst was talking about how bad the area was on espn

i wont go to anymore nets games if they go there, i dont wanna drive any farther than i do now to go to games, an hour and a half is enough for me

What direction you coming from? Newark maybe closer or the same distance for you. Even has the train that takes you right there.

thank god, someone tear that eyesore down. i just dont understand why the team doesnt move to newark, easier access to games, more fans, more money and the arena is SO much nice, whats the problem here?

Yormak can't brand the Rock like it's a giant race car. Devils would never allow it.

Nets rather make money guaranteed money on branding than risk making money on fans coming to the arena.

If the Nets are losing to the Bucks at halftime, that would be a great time to close down the arena.

god forbid they rely on a fan base that would more likely embrace them in a state of the art arena with easy access.
