Evan Turner? Meh

We need to play smaller, have at least two guards or worst case scenario both Crabbe and Turner with another guard. Harkless and Aminu are both tweeners, same goes for Crabbe and Turner, tweeners are better used in their bigger position. We need another guard to bump all the rotation to play bigger and therefore also need to send out one or more of our bigs

I'll be honest, I think ET is going to do fine as the primary ball handler with the second unit. (Weird that I just typed that since I was the primary ball handler while I was in prison)
Obviously he's going to struggle against other ball hawking PGs like we saw against CP3, but usually he will be matched up with the other teams SGs or SFs..... I liked what I saw last night when he posted up and the offense flowed thru that....ala Pippen or Barkley. He has the court vision and skills to see open players while posting up. Don't be surprised if you see him in the post, AC on the opposite side trying to spread that court. Be patient with him. DOn't get it twisted, I don't like him attempting ANY type of 3 ptr, but his mid range drive and kick or post up game is pretty damn good.

I think you may be on to something, but not quite exactly what you think.

I was just poking around at 82games.com and made the following observation: Allen Crabbe is better offensively at SG, but much better defensively at SF. Turner is pretty much equal, both offensively and defensively at both positions. That makes sense as Crabbe is pretty much a catch and shoot perimeter player on offense, but doesn't have the quickness to guard SGs on defense. Turner is a true tweener - plays the same at both positions and can play the point forward roll Batum used to play in Stotts' system.

So, rather than add another player to an already deep roster, just use the ones we have the right way. When they play together, Crabbe plays SG on offense with Turner in the point forward role. On defense, they swap and Crabbe guards the SF, to hide his inability to guard SGs and Turner guards the SG.

I'm sure Stotts and his staff will figure this all out. Probably already have.

I would definitely give Lillard some credit as he is an all around professional, but having that "old man" on the team may be something that we are lacking. Now I see why HCP and I get along; we were both homecoming kings and both played basketball in prison (that was the only place I ever played it; and only because they didn't have a soccer ball).

I'm sorry for the anger, I actually didn't even see the game or any games so far this season. But I know Evan Turner is not a PG.
We lost the game in the 2nd quarter when we probably played just one of Dame/CJ/Napier and maybe used Evan Turner as the other guard. Just an educated guess. These 3 players are our only Guards (and Pat) and we need two guards on the floor all the time. It's that simple

Holy shit balls batman. Its pre-season. I think stotts is smart enough to evaluate how he wants the rotations to look and not give a shit about the wins. Probably letting guys get in game rhythm as well as testing chemistry between certain lineups he finds interesting.

It's baffling some people can't understand that. I mean, for fucks sake, the players don't give a fuck if they win these games... some fans are weird.

This is for players getting better and coaches finding the best rotations and to put the players in the best places to succeed. It's not fucking hard to understand... for most people.

There is a reason that for the most part teams don't make significant changes until late December at the Earliest. It takes teams at least 25 games + preseason to gel as a unit. Changes made later in the season new guys need to blend into the existing chemistry. This time of year though everyone is still finding their roles... And not just in Portland, every franchise that made changes to their rotation.

Im pretty sure stotts is smart enough to see turner struggling as back up pg and work something out. Hell dame and cj did fine last year sharing the duties if it doesnt work out he can be placed in a position to succeed. But i think playing back up pg would take some time. Its a very fast and high iq position he might just need a few games to figure it out. I dont care if clippers fans were getting into it. They can cheer all they want for a pre season win. Then when biffoon and cp3 get injured again when it matters they can enjoy another 1st round exit.

All I said was that so far, I'm unimpressed with Mehvan. I didn't say the sky was falling and I didn't say we should fire Olshey. I simply observed a high-priced guy who is not playing well so far. Even the haters agree he's not playing well yet. Hopefully I'm wrong about him, but certainly it's not an incorrect observation so far.
