D'Antoni is a hell of a coach. Don't get me wrong the Knicks are talented and have been perpetually underachieving, but D'Antoni has made a huge difference changing the culture and attitude of the team.
Lawrence Frank is one of the hardest working coaches in the league, there is no questioning his effort. I know as a Nets fan that he is trying his hardest to make this team the best they can possibly be.
My problem with Frank is that I don't believe he has the ability motivate the players and therefore plays less talented players who are known as "effort players" while putting the under achievers on the bench and hoping they'll figure it out. I also believe Frank is one of those coaches who gets so emotionally invested in a game that he misses the mismatches and throws out horrible lineups situationally. For example when we are in a scoring drought he'll throw a lineup out featuring Trenton Hassell, Keyon Dooling, Bobby Simmons, Edjuardo Najera and Brook Lopez...not exactly a lineup of scorers.
Really good analysis, that is exactly what Frank does. If I ever see Hassell out on the court with Najera, I'm just turning off my TV right there. Playing those guys in place of the youngsters is really not what this season should be about.
At some point though, don't you have to look at their drafting the last few years? Marcus didn't pan out at all, Wright was borderline atrocious, especially with Granger available. Boone is best described as "serviceable." They gave away Korver who would have been a 2nd round steal for cash. Lopez fell to them and should be good, but they haven't had a draft pick really pan out since RJ. That was 8 years ago!
