Troy Raymond, a former NBA referee who last season officiated college basketball games, committed suicide in a New Orleans hotel room hours after police found his wife's body at their home in the Houston area last week.Police say Raymond, 46, is considered a "person of interest" in his wife's death, which has been ruled a homicide due to manual strangulation, according to CBSSports.com.

Constable Tim Holifield of Montgomery County Precinct Three also told the web site that during the course of the investigation while at the residence on Friday, investigators were notified that Troy Raymond had been found dead due to a single gunshot to the head.

Raymond, reports cbssports.com, spent a year as an NBA ref before being forced out in 2004 for lying on his resume that he had played on the University of Colorado's national champion football team.

Last season, Raymond officiated games for the Southland and Sun Belt conferences.

So his wife is murdered and then he immediately commits suicide?

I can't wait to hear how many millions of dollars they spend on this investigation. Here, let me help you out, Houston.....He did it!

I guess it's important to know what happened. Either the guy was so grief stricken or guilt ridden that he took his own life. If the former, his wife's killer is at large still.

Not a happy story...

Week-old news. It was in the upper right corner for a day of the stories listed in the NBA page for Yahoo, CBS Sportsline, ESPN, etc.

NBA refs have always favored New Orleans over Portland.

He got fired from the NBA for lying about playing college football?

You can't lie on a Resume or application. Employers have the right to terminate you immediately if you lied. You also lose any right to sue them for wrongful termination

Pft, next thing you'll tell us is that Casey Anthony is guilty, and OJ did it.

Nostradumbass!

the fact you call it a "joint" shows you have 0 cred left.

I think it smells of a double murder.

They should be looking at Ron Garritson.

Now I know what Nate must feel like when I post the same thing about him over and over.

I always find it humorous that people have a hard time believing someone might know a lowly scout.

I made Tenderfoot! I retired at age 13.

Hey, don't knock it. You gotta learn several kinds of knots.

I can still tie a granny. I'm probably even better now than then.

Stand your ground man! I'm sure you do know somebody..... Zags is just the forum tool!

Bullshit! It's our god given right as Americans to lie on our resumes... Mine says that I graduated from Harvard, I won a gold medal for curling, and I was one of People Magazine's 100 most beautiful people. If the employer doesn't do a fact check before they hire you, it's their own damn fault.

Nate, I didn't realize they had people fill out resumes at Plaid Pantry!
