i honestly can't understand why anyone pretends that the things they say mean anything. they may have been good at basketball, but they almost never know what they're talking about.

Or maybe Kenny got inspired from watching White Men Can't Jump recently.. Anyone remember the line where Rosie Perez was talking to Woody Harrelson, and said, "Sometimes when you win, you really lose. And sometimes when you lose, you really win. The Spurs lost, the Blazers did not win.

Totally disagree. The Blazers made the shots that they needed to down the stretch. The Spurs didn't choke on free throws or take really bad shots or get called for technical fouls or other stupid stuff - if any of that had happened, I'd agree. But the Spurs made some important shots, and missed one important three-pointer.

OTOH, Webster made two huge three-pointers, Aldridge made a tough fadeaway, and Miller did an excellent job of setting guys up by driving the lane.

The Spurs shouldn't have let a lead like that slip, but the Blazers did an outstanding job of increasing the defensive pressure and making the shots they had to make.

Great win for the Blazers. Terrible loss for the Spurs.

I've been telling anyone that will listen that the Spurs have been done since last year. My recollection is that very few on this board have agreed with me. Ginobili and Duncan are broken down and Parker just isn't that good to begin with. The other players on the Spurs are garbage although I do like the rookie Blair.

I was annoyed watching online, their half time show didn't mention the Blazers really at all. Stream cut out after the game, so luckily didn't get subjected to their post-game discussion, but it reminded me of our team two years ago, where we weren't the TrailBlazers, we were just the other team's opponent for the night, and we were basically an afterthought. Never got praise for a good win. It was always the other team losing.

And I agree with whoever said it above, Pop is a better coach than nate. But he lost the game for them by leaving Parker on the bench for a huge stretch where they lost their lead, and the game. He could have called a timeout at multiple pooints, and didn't. This forum would flip the fuck out, as mentioned, if Nate did that. Pop blew it.

Yep, the Blazers have now beaten the Spurs FIVE times in a row (funny, I didn't hear anyone on the TNT broadcast mention that little fact). The first three were easy double digit wins, and the last two were without Brandon Roy. Their old guys just can't keep up with our young guys.

Several of us were pointing out that Richard Jefferson is merely a famous name at this point, not a good NBA player, and that the Spurs didn't actually upgrade all that much, if at all (and their principles were yet another year older). Some others wondered loudly why Pritchard passed on the chance to acquire the famous Richard Jefferson, only to allow the Spurs to snap him up.

However, the people who said Jefferson was mediocre were dead wrong. He's actually become even worse than that, as his PER now stands at 12.5.

But at least he's paid like an impact player.

I admit I wanted to settle for RJ for RLEC. IIRC most thought RLEC was worth more. It turned out to be worth Miller. What would have been better for the Blazers, RJ or Miller? I think Miller.

Honestly, before the commercial break they literally said that when they came back, they were going to talk about the Spurs, as if the Blazers weren't even involved in the game. And that's what they did.

I remember thinking at the time that the Jefferson addition seemed extremely reminiscent of the Finley addition they'd done a few years earlier. On paper it sounded great, but when you see it actually implemented you find the guy just isn't going to put up impressive numbers as a 4th option.

Finley's PER in first year in SA: 12.7
Jefferson's PER: 12.5

The big difference is that back when Finley was added, Tim Duncan was four years younger. GM's tend to look a lot more savvy when their superstar player is still in their prime.

In other words, most NBA players on a road trip who are here for a night or two can't wait to get the hell out of PDX. That attitude translates to commentary.

manu appears to have broken down. the same is not true of duncan(though it's a question mark if he'll be anywhere near 100% by the end of the season). and the idea that parker isn't that good is entirely false.

the spurs are old, but that doesn't mean they can't put it together for the playoffs. as long as they get there, they are dangerous. and as long as duncan isn't hobbling around like he was at the end of last year, he absolutely can still carry a team more than any other big man in the league.

I'm recalling a back and forth debate I had with someone over the huge opportunity the Blazers missed by not cutting Outlaw and signing McDyess to a similar deal (3 years 15M) he got from the Spurs. He owns a 12.8 PER for the year and is averaging 20 minutes... he's 34 and all theirs till he's 36. If the champagne doesn't flow at the end of this season for Portland maybe thats the reason
