Just recently I started getting floaters in my left eye. Like when I look straight sometimes I get two tracers in my eye. I dunno how to really explain it to make sense.

Anybody else have these? What are they cause from I wonder?

It mainly happens when its bright outside.

I get those now and then. asked my opthamolgist at Hawthorne vision last time I had them and was told its usually pieces of dirt, debries ect that are too small for us to really notice before getting in the eye. If its in the same spot and doesnt really go away after a few days then its time to see a doctor.

Eye floaters are spots in your vision. Eye floaters may look like black or gray specks, strings or cobwebs that drift about when you move your eyes.

Most eye floaters are caused by age-related changes that occur as the jelly-like substance (vitreous) inside your eyes becomes more liquid. When this happens, microscopic fibers within the vitreous tend to clump together and can cast tiny shadows on your retina, which you may see as eye floaters.

If you notice a sudden increase in the number of eye floaters, contact an eye specialist immediately — especially if you also see flashes of light or lose your peripheral vision. These can be symptoms of an emergency that requires prompt attention.

You're getting old dude...

Could be Ocular Migraines. Won't feel pain with them, just your vision being a little off. Take an aspirin (not Motrin or Tylenol) or two at first onset of symptoms.

Or you're masturbating too much. Aspirin won't help with that.

This is why you should always wear eye protection.

No, it always happens - you just notice it when it's bright. I've got 'em bad. Every time I go to the optometrist I ask if there's something that can be done. Turns out there are a couple of things, neither good. One is to zap them with lasers. But apart from involving firing lasers INTO YOUR EYE, this just turns them into goop, still in your eye, so would probably darken the fluid in your eye anyway. ("These things" are strands of protein that have detached from the back of your eye.) The other is to suck the fluid out of your eye. But as it's only the pressure of the fluid that's keeping your retina attached, this poses a big risk of detached retina. Supposedly they can try to pump in fluid at the same rate, but my optometrist doesn't recommend it. I'm getting pretty desperate, though, because there are big lumps swimming about in my vision these days, and it's getting pretty dangerous when I drive.

Fun, huh? My wife looked it up and said that changing your diet might help, but she says that about everything.

Floaters are one of the first symptoms of a retinal tear and that can eventually lead to a retinal detachment if not treated right away.

I remember 30+ years ago having floaters and I still do. The doctor told me they were normal, and unless they were large or red (I think), not to worry about them. I haven't worried about them since.

Yeah, they haven't gotten worse. Also, its not like it happens all the time. I just notice them every once in awhile, usually when its bright out. It doesn't really bother me.

If it progressively gets worse I'll get it checked out. Glad to know I'm not the only one this happens to.

Haha its great that Family Guy did a sketch about this.

I've had these forever.

Anyone near-sighted/myopia? This is very common.

I'm definitely nearsighted. But it has never been bad enough to make me compelled to go get glasses.

The worse the nearsightedness gets, also common as you age, the more of these you'll see - especially in bright light.
