Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

It is going to be interesting for sure to see if Neil waits to see whats left after the frenzy, or if he shows love to someone within our price range and strikes quickly. I would not wait.

Olshey has always gone after what he wants aggressively. I remember two years ago he was in DC on the night FA started pitching to Hibbert. Would expect that he has his main target identified and will strike when the clock hits 9

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

I think we need another ball-handler/creator.
When Mo was injured it was obvious we were only good enough with both Lillard and Batum on the floor but even with just one of them we were already in trouble.
Mo is a good ball handler but creates mostly for himself, Lillard not being a natural distributing PG and not having a SG who can really initiate an offense is compensated by Nic's Point-forward abilities, but still, our biggest need is another PG type player, especially if Mo doesn't re-sign.
I think Shaun Livingston is the best affordable option.

I agree, although I think Lillard has proven he is a natural distributor if needed. But we need him to score so we don't always see it. My goal would be to have as many passers and ball handles on the floor as possible. (i.e our 76-77 team)
I think by signing a good PG we become more flexible. Damian can play more back up SG, Wes can play more back up at the 3.

Stuckey, Chalmers, and Livingston all are intriguing possibilities.

Stuckey/Livingston I like

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

good, have a barf bag at the ready

I don't really mind those guys that much, but they will still be available later on during free agency. No need to rush to go after them now while giving up a shot at getting better players early on

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

I'd be making calls to Pau Gasol. There is talk of the Knicks signing him for $3 million while we can pay nearly double on a team winning more with far better teammates. But still he'll be a long shot.

Darren Collision would be a great backup PG. Many don't think the Clippers would offer him the full MLE. I doubt any team out there pays him more than full MLE so the question isn't the money its if Neil can sell him on coming to our team.

Those are players whom have a lot of value on multi-year full MLE contracts. Outside of that type of super sub player I think Neil might just wait for the first round of free agency to pass and see if any bargains are available after a week or so. I think Neil will want to keep maximum cap flexibility for next summer if possible so that probably means only offering one year contracts. Maybe a player like Marion would agree to a one year full MLE contract.

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

I will throw up if we go after hill or kaman

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
On eve of free agency, forward Jordan Hill promises to have several suitors, including Lakers, Mavericks and Rockets, sources tell Yahoo.

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

Celts just exercised QO for Bradley - he is now an RFA - we ain't IMO going after any RFA's - X him off

Saw a quote that his minutes were limited last year due to terrible conditioning. No thanks

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

so you believe a random quote this time of year? I have read a few times it was D'Antoni's rotations that caused him (Hill) and others (Kaman as well) issues. Lakers were a clusterfuk last yr, when he played Hill played very well

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

There is a lot of cap space out there that is going to keep us from signing some of these targets listed in this thread.
I guess some of you are hoping for sign and trades.

Monroe will get 12 mil minimum
Frye will get 7
Deng will get at least 10
Not sure what Marvin and Stuckey will get. Possibly MLE, but I bet just a little bit more.

It is going to be interesting for sure to see if Neil waits to see whats left after the frenzy, or if he shows love to someone within our price range and strikes quickly. I would not wait.

This will be interesting. He might have someone targeted at the MLE or he can wait to see if some players get overlooked and sell them on Portland, a la Mo Williams. It might even be both, he takes a shot at someone for the MLE and if taht doesn't work, he let's the frenzy play itself out and looks for value.

I think with the BAE he waits to see if a quality vet PG isn't getting any offers because of the new CBA and teams just don't have the money.

#Blazers Damian Lillard's free agent list includes first and foremost Mo Williams as well as Channing Fyre and others http://t.co/l5B3Ca3Y0i

With the NBA free agency period set to begin at 9 p.m. tonight for teams on the west coast, the Portland Trail Blazers are figured to execute their plan of attack sharp and swiftly from the onset.

At this stage, organizations already know who their targets are and for small market teams such as Portland, it’s vital that at the opportune time to hit their main prospects to bombard them with a full-court recruiting press.

General Manger Neil Olshey and his staff will be on top of their game, but the million-dollar question is where do they take their game to first?

The Trail Blazers only have the midlevel exception and the biannual exception at their disposal this summer with at most, two roster spots available. It is important that they be pragmatic in whom they pursue, so not to waste any precious time. Time is of the essence.

The city of Portland is still reeling from a remarkable season in which the team exceeded all expectations with a 55-win season to cap it off with a second round appearance. The team is on the upswing, but need a few more pieces to sustain an upward trend.

Sunday night when CSNNW.com asked All-Star point guard Damian Lillard if there are any free agents of his preference, first and foremost, he went with his dynamic backup.

He's a good role player. But, there's no way in he deserves that much.

Precisely...his numbers ain't any better than Dorells the year before. Would you have gave him that same amount?

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

Good to see lillard is on the same page as some of us.

Resign Mo.

I'd be happy with Frye, carter, ariza or hawes

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

Yes to carter. Don't care about the rest

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

Didn't he single handedly destroy the Pacers last year?

What's the attraction in that?

What? How? Everything was fine until they traded for turner. Stephenson was arguably their best player in the playoffs too

Nice to see Lillard take such interest in the Blazers moves and options this summer. He seems genuine and knowledgeable about the Blazer.

Meanwhile, what the heck is Rose doing . . . basically saying he isn't going to do any recruiting for his team. Doesn't seem like an leader's attitude to me.

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

Yes to a 37 year old and no to three other players that are younger and would greatly help us? Mmmmmmk

That 37 year old is one of the best bench scorers in the league. The others don't really improve our team. Frye can shoot but isn't much of a defender or rebounder. Same with Hawes. I also don't think hawes fits personality wise.

That was kid of my reaction. Carter would be at the far end of any list I had. So many other needs and it would take the whole MLE for him to move from Dallas

If we don't get our top targets at the start of free agency I could definetely see us going for a RFA. Yes it ties up our cap space for 3 days but if we won't use the money during that time it wouldn't hurt the Blazers.

so you believe a random quote this time of year? I have read a few times it was D'Antoni's rotations that caused him (Hill) and others (Kaman as well) issues. Lakers were a clusterfuk last yr, when he played Hill played very well

Jordan Hill is a tough option to decide on, I definitely wouldn't give him the full MLE, but he'd be a steal for the BAE. I'm not sure if his skill set really fits what our team is about though. Is he an upgrade over TRob off the bench? I don't think he's a center. Thinking about it some more I'd be shocked it we pursued him.

Meanwhile, what the heck is Rose doing . . . basically saying he isn't going to do any recruiting for his team. Doesn't seem like an leader's attitude to me.

I don't know if I buy into any of that at all. Its probably just the media taking things out of context. Rose might want to let other guys have a little space to get a feel for the city or offers on their own. I'd expect him to talk with a key free agent before the deal is done.

And Carter plays defense all of a sudden?

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

I don't want our backup centers main talent being shooting. Otherwise we might as well save money and just roll Leonard out there. I want a defender, a rebounder. Someone like Okafor

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

We could do a lot worse than re-signing Mo, using the MLE on Frye, and using the BAE on Carter. I don't know if Carter will take a bit of a pay cut like that, but he'd be a good fit.

Re: FA starts in 24 hrs.

Carter isn't a center. We have two weaknesses. Bench scoring and defense in the paint. Carter is a much better offensive player than either hawes or frye and neither of those other two improve our interior defense
