a pure point guard (once Mo leaves)
a defensive low post player (for Lamarcus)
a shooting forward (Mike Miller-type)

this is the deepest free agency pool in history, a buyers market. We should be able to get those.

I think T-Rob can be groomed into the backup 4 we're looking for. I do agree that we need a lights out shooter backing up Nic. My dream is to acquire Kyle Korver somehow. With the way we share the basketball and Coach Stotts' love of the 3-point shot, it shouldn't be hard to lure someone to Rip City.

God. When you mentioned Kyle Korver I just creamed my pants! Asshole will probably go to Miami now.

vc-top10-2014.jpg
FUCK no.

Korver is one of the primary starters in Atlanta and signed a 4 year $24 million contract this season, he's going nowhere. Mario Chalmers is the starting PG for the two time defending champs.

I used to think fans of other teams were delusional for thinking they could grab LaMarcus for Asik. But I guess there's just as many here.

I see BGD is still jacking off to 2003 Vince Carter highlight vids and thinking he's the same player.

"Thinking outside the box" requires you to think. Try it out sometime, BGD.

I wouldn't mind VC as a 10-15 minute guy off of the bench, but he obviously isn't going to be jumping over Europeans anymore.

See now having an attitude like that isn't going to get a championship. It might get you a good team.

He said ROLO isn't going to get traded. That's probably true, tbh. How is that an attitude? Are you saying its impossible to win a championship with Lopez at center? Time will tell, I suppose.

Well the guy has been known for his scoring and last time I looked the Blazers where last in bench scoring.

Because they don't play as much. Per minute we're not bad. What we need are bench guards and wings who are good defenders.

Mo opting out doesn't make anywhere near enough cap space to get a $7M player.

You might have $4M in cap space, so that's all you get. Plus MLE, which can't be added to cap space. So basically a $4M player and a MLE player.

Too much cap space and you don't qualify for MLE at all.

So?

I’d love to see us pick up one of the top 4 backup point guards available (Sessions, Farmar, Brooks, or Blake) and one of the top 4 backup bigs available (Humphries, Hill, Adrien, or Blair). Our available money to spend will probably force us to look lower on the list, but I still like our bench upgrade options this off season.

This is a really good breakdown. Repped.

I actually like Chalmers. I think he would accept a backup role. Either Sessions or maybe Shaun Livingston.

Agreed. Livingston would be my top preference, however, I think he's played himself into a starter roll/money. Similar to Chalmers. I'd be surprised if he left Miami and took a backup roll elsewhere. Both those guys would be great pickups as backups.

I think you're right about Chalmers, but Livingston I think could be had for a decent deal. I think there's always going to be questions about his health, which would make teams reluctant to give him starter money.

Well I saw it like, No way in hell we trade ROLO he's my favorite player.

There are a lot of great role playing players on this list

http://hoopshype.com/free_agency_2014.htm
I'm not seeing it. There are several starter quality players who will get more than Portland can offer - but there is a significant drop off after that. I don't see many on the list who I would consider a major upgrade over the bench Portland already has.

Right about now Boris Diaw who won a championship with Nico in France and Patty Mills are looking pretty good to me. I like Leandro Barbosa a whole lot as well as Chaning Frye..I'll pass on Steve Blake though.

If Barbosa is healthy I wouldn't mind him.

Just don't think he's the same player these days. At one point he was MONEY.

Spencer Hawes
Shaun Livingston
Shannon Brown
Marcin Gortat
