Facing facts

I have this thing called the internet and DVR's too. I was speaking more generally than just last night though.
And yes, you can argue with it if you want but confirmation bias exists in all of us and you and I aren't above it.
So you went back and watched the game?

Also, you keep talking about the 2nd quarter in the first 4-5 minutes they had a pass to a layup that GTR missed, CJ passed to a wide-open Melo who bricked a shot, a lob attempt that CJ threw to high, a fast break that amounted in nothing, oh and Simons bricked a layup (I'm not sure they would've given an assist there though).

Not all of it, but about 3 quarters of it at 2x speed. It was about what I expected (so my confirmation bias)...

Confirmation bias is an incredible thing we all deal with. Knowing you (or I) have to battle our own is the first step! I don't know if I'll ever fully get passed that step!

I'm not even really disagreeing with @hoopsjock though, sure a new system might help, it might not I don't know. I do know that it's my opinion that the way this roster looks right now I don't expect them to win, and I think there are very few teams they are more talented than.
I don't know if the coaches have given up, but surely they could have.
I've said for like two years I wanted a new coach as I don't think Stotts is good enough to lead to a championship.

Since you're charting plays what about the other 40+ possessions of the 2nd and 3rd quarters?

I mean... I could but what would the point be?

Im not sure what were arguing about. If a new coach could help? Ive already said it could, or if the team / coaches have quit and decided the injuries are an excuse? I suppose thats possible too.

From my "biased" point of view, this is what I truly believe is happening:

The coaching staff and main two players (Dame and CJ) are approaching the situation in a way that they'll eventually figure it out and be fine. Just like in years past when they've had similar records and finished the season strong. Especially if they get Nurk back and maybe throw Collins in there too that everything will be okay again.

Because of this I feel like the coaches are sticking with similar strategies and philosophies and style of play when the personnel (mostly due to the injuries) isn't ideal for that system. So my point is that when people say we don't know if another system would work or not it's true since there won't be a different coach this season but also false because the current coaches could adapt more to what they have and try different things. They could try something drastic like a "7 seconds or less" offense or a more pressure oriented defense or since we suck at rebounding just start sending guys to cherry pick when a shot goes up but because the team still believes they are and will be better they seem unwilling to change much. It's like they don't believe it's as bad as it is and won't continue being that way. Maybe they're right and I'm in the wrong, I just hate hearing that "the talent level sucks so what are they supposed to do?" There may not be an answer to that but I do know that playing with a lack of both focus and energy with very little urgency (Dame's words!) isn't going to help.

I don't know, for the last 3 months you seem to argue with just about every one of my posts.

You don't need to trade CJ to implement a system in which everyone shares the ball. Replacing CJ with Simons won't suddenly make us get more assists.
I agree with this version of Eric a lot.

We can agree to disagree... CJ has said he is going to pass more than 5 years now and nothing has changed. He is going to be 29 next season. He will never change... ISO is in his DNA.
How do you know its in his DNA? He's played under one coach... thats it.

It was the high water mark with that team. Hence all of the acquiring of easier to trade contracts...

easier to trade?

Bazemore vs Turner? Whiteside vs Harkless + Meyers? Looks the same to me, but it could be the smaller contracts of Harkless & Meyers would be easier to trade individually than the big contract of Whiteside. I'm also seeing that Whiteside + Bazemore = about 4M more than the other three contracts. Probably doesn't make much difference

Hood's contract wasn't easy to trade at all (since he could veto a trade IIRC), and that's before he was injured. For the rest, vet minimum are always easy to trade

It’s not going to be okay this season. Too many key injuries and not enough time.

I’ve watched almost every game this year, and our flaws are pretty evident by now.

Weak 3-point shooting: Let’s face it. Most teams in the NBA have better 3-point shooters than we do. Night after night, the opposing team kills us with timely 3-point shots.

Porous defense: We can’t stop anybody, even lousy teams who are missing their best players.

Lack of effort: we consistently get out-worked by other teams, who seem to want it worse than we do.

Too many players (Lillard, McCollum, Anthony) who like to go one-on-one, which more often than not kills us.

That’s it. And that’s more than enough to keep us under .500 for the entire year.
Bazemore was supposed to be a shinning bright star of three point shots attempted and made. What happened to that?

Good question. He’s very inconsistent with the three point shot. Woefully so in some games.

They are all expiring, the others were multi-year and expensive.

Hood wasn't trade bait.

We're in a far better position to take advantage of the next available great player divorce than we were had we not made those trades.

I was honestly impressed he was able to get teams to give up expiring deals for those contracts.

wut?

Turner & Bazemore were both expiring, and both teams were more than ready to move on from those players. It was unwanted for unwanted; expensive scrub for expensive scrub. And both teams ended up in the exact same spot they were before the trade...with a large expiring contract on a crappy player

in many ways, it was the same for Whiteside. He was a disruption in Miami and they wanted to get rid of him for that reason, and because they had Abedayo. And that Whiteside portion of the trade for Miami helped them secure Butler. And in the Whiteside for Meyers swap, they not only got somebody who could play with Abedayo, they saved 45M in salary and tax...there was nothing not to like in that trade for the Heat, and they had plenty of reasons to do so. There was no Olshey sales pitch needed

Portland actually added 16M in salary and tax by making those trades. That's what Jody Allen has to pay, on top of everything else attached to those 2016 deals Olshey made
