Fall TV Season

Anyone seen any good new shows?

I set the DVR to record most of the new programs, and so far all I've seen is not very good.

Last Resort seems pretty good, but it's only been one show.

Also, the networks are pinching pennies so hard these days that it's not surprising the quality of the programming is tanking. The producers of Grey's Anatomy were told to cut costs to the point they got rid of three of the major cast members and roles they played.

To boot, I heard there are 28 new shows of which only 2 are being made in LA. To save costs.

Most of the shows I watch are not new this year. I like Gold Rush, Bearing Sea Gold, Dexter, BoardWalk Empire, America Horror Story, Archer, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad. All quality programing IMO.

There's like 60-65 new or returning shows for the fall schedule. I might watch two of them (Sons of Anarchy & The Walking Dead).

Homeland season two premieres tonight on Showtime after Dexter. If you haven't seen it, watch the first season ASAP. It's an amazing show.

Have you guys seen Revolution?

I haven't seen it, but if you like it you might want to pick up the S.M. Stirling books that the show seems to have ripped off.

Interestingly, the books are for the most part set in Oregon. Corvallis and Mt. Angel are two of the places that places regularly mentioned.

Pretty good stuff.

I watched the first 2 of Revolution, liked the pilot but was a little bored with the 2nd. Watched the Mob Doctor but it really isn't that good. Go on is ok, the New Normal sucks. Missed Last Resort but will probably watch it ondemand. The rest of the new stuff didn't impress me or isn't on NBC while I'm working.

I've watched both episodes and it seems pretty lame. Sad for a show that got so much attention before it aired. Other than Lost, I can't think of a JJ Abrams show that has been good. Alcatraz sucked too.

Jennifer Carpenter is hot.

I watched the first episode of Revolution and thought it was okay but can't be bothered to watch any more episodes.

I'm not patient enough to watch shows that aren't at least semi-standalone.

However, a couple of years ago a buddy lent me Season One of Heroes. I enjoyed it, partially because I could pop in the next episode and see what happened. If I had to wait a week between watching, then no thank you.

And my wife told me not even to bother with Last Resort, b/c even as just a submariner's wife she caught so many errors she was laughing and thought I'd probably just be annoyed. Is anyone watching it and enjoying it?

I've seen Modern Family a few times....and you can always watch a Family Guy here and there for some laughs. But that's about the extent of my TV-watching, unless you count having Doc McStuffins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on in the background while I'm studying.

Those are the only two I watch as well, and Mad Men and Breaking Bad both won't have new episodes until spring/summer 2013.

Last Resort intrigues me, though. I was a big fan of Lost until it completely went off the rails the last two seasons. Watched them, but the plot lines became so convoluted that the only way out was to call them all dead at the end and forget it ever happened.

It's not new, but "Boss" is a pretty good show. We watched all of the first season on Demand and I'm letting season two get done before we watch it. It's full of people you don't like and it's tough to watch at times because of it, but it definitely was/is compelling.

The League is good. Louie is really good. Not new, either, but worth watching IMO.

Thinking about starting Rescue Me on Netflix. Is it worth it? I've never seen a minute of the show.

Watch it from the beginning. Turn on closed captioning if you have trouble understanding insanely funny threats and insults made by a Scot.

Intellectual property is done. If studios want to make money they need to stop relying on tv ratings, and more so on endorsements.

I watched the first season of Rescue Me (I was living with a good friend, a firefighter at the time). I don't watch much TV outside of sports, in part because I get caught up and have to follow story lines, no matter how terrible or lame they might be. Rescue Me was just "ho hum". Wasn't terrible, wasn't great. Had some good moments. I can understand why some people would be interested, but it just wasn't my kind of show.
