He's been quiet on Twitter, maybe he really was muzzled?
Well, the replays are still stellar so he's still got a job

Sounds like Paul Allen runs a tight ship over there.
Things are a-changing' with the new President. It's pretty clear.
They've changed to money-making mode. Besides selling the naming rights to The Rose Garden, they are trying to squeeze money out of every opportunity they have, according to people I know with various connections to the organization. Putting at least a competitive product on the floor is helping with this shift, too.
Even the peripheral people tied to the organization that do work for the organization, but that are not actual employees of the Blazers.... they are squeezing them for money via advertising and requiring them to buy their own seats (even though these types of people are REQUIRED to attend the games).
Even though I can't put my finger on it, I get the feeling Blazers are trying to squeeze more and more money from season ticket holders.
Ticket rep warned next year there is going to be a big change in the way they do season ticket pricing . . .
I know Paul lost a lot of money during some crazy years with the massive payroll and what not, but they had already corrected a lot of potential issues to start running things like a business. Taking this next step and bringing everything to the level they appear headed, business-wise....... how long until the "Paul Allen is selling the team" speculation starts back up?
Or did I just re-start it up?
It's probably Vulcan, Kolde and his vulture sister who care more, and certainly whoever is in charge of the business model and perceives his job, throughout his career, as being to maximize corporate profits.Seriously, I don't understand why Paul would even care if he is losing $ with the Blazers. With the kind of $ he has, he could TRY to lose as much as possible through his 2 teams and it wouldn't put a $%^&* dent in his worth!

That aside, fans should be rooting for the Blazers to be a money making operation. Allen isn't going to live forever and if the Blazers are always in the red because they can't turn a profit in Portland then there's a decent chance new owners look to move the team if/when they take over.

I would think sports franchises don't make money consistently, per se, but the value of the team goes up a lot and then when sold that is where the money is realized.

I think the fact that HCP left the board, for reasons unknown, made it unnecessary for SlyPokerDog to post his full name after the fact. SPD obviously felt it was wrong, considering he edited his own post, as well as the one that I quoted, to replace HCP's real name with "Big John". Seemed like a cheap shot to me.
Whatever, though. I know my name is dirt here, anyhow.

Depends on your operating margins.
For example, if you buy a team for 200 million dollars, consistently lose 10 million a year for 20 years and then sell the team for 350 million that's not exactly much of an investment.

If someone with the Blazers is responsible for The HCP receiving a cease and desist order barring him from on-line posting, that person's mother should have used a "prophylactic measure". Preferably an abortion.I will actually miss this particular poster. I will miss his insights into the players and other personalities associated with the team. His connection to the players and the team made me feel closer to them, that they are real people, not just numbers on jerseys. I don't ever recall him posting anything that crossed any lines about the players or the organization. If he was told to cease and desist by the organization, I suspect it was a prophylactic measure to prevent any possibility he could ever post anything that would damage the organization in some way.
