Anyone here fasting?
I am going to fast all 30 days. Basically, you can't eat anything from sunrise to sunset. It is your choice to fast. If you choose to fast all 30 days, you cant eat anything from sunrise to sunset. Today was the first day. And I am already hungry with like 3 more hours to go. I am real hungry, but I still wanna do it. So who here is fasting?

You mean you have to not eat for 30 days? Are you serious? Like EVER?!

Wtf Umair?? Can a human survive without food for 30 days? Maybe you're thinking 30 hours........

No only from sunrise to sunset. Like I wake up a little before sunrise, and eat a lot. Then sleep, and I cant eat till sunset. I dont have to do this, but I am anyway to get good deeds. I can eat after sunset.

I know some people who are going to fast. I've always been amazed by players like Olajuwon and Abdur-Rahim, who were able to play basketball while fasting.

Did you guys know that Olajuwon prayed while in basketball games? Like betweeen a timeout or halftime, he would go pray and come back in the next dead ball. That is amazing.

I remember when the Rockets were having the championship parade downtown and Hakeem left early because he had to pray....he's really dedicated to Islam.

I was gonna make a thread for this but thanks Umair. Yeah I'm fasting too. I'm gonna fast for all of the days. Hakeem was a real dedicated Muslim. I can't believe he fasted while playing basketball. I would get thirsty.

So are you hungry? And when does it end? I heard 7:30. Dude, I am starving like hell. But I wanna do it.

Yeah 7:20-7:30. My mom makes her best food during Ramadan. I'm preety hungry. Like 4 more hours left. Umair are you Sunni or Shia?

I am Sunni. I know dude, my mom can cook during Ramadan. rolls and samosas. Omg, I am getting hungry typing this

When he played for the Knicks I remember Nazr Mohammed doing the same thing. He was understandably a bit sluggish. Good luck with that. A few of my friends do the same thing.

Yeah, alot of my friends are doing it as well. I have quite a lot of respect for anyone who can do it all 30 days, which is almost everyone I know who does it. Sometimes though, people chew gum or drink water by mistake.

whats the significance of the sunrise to sunset thing? Sorry if i come off rude, but I'm just trying to get some info. Water is allowed right?

Water is not allowed nothing is, you get used to it though after a week.

How young to people start this? I could never make it through cross country without water. Keep it up guys, that seems tough.

I don't have to go to P.E. for a month. It's tough when your at school and others are eating. You could start at the age of 10, I think.

Do you get a note to be excused from P.E.? Or do a lot of people in your school do this so it's allowed.

For those who do fast, do you fast when you're sick? All of my friends who do fast usually make an exception to not fast when they are.

Alot of people who fast bring notes and teachers don't make us go to PE. Some people mostly Indian people (not to be rude) lie to teachers and say there Muslim so they dont have to go to PE too. They look Muslim so teachers think they are.

Indians, Pakis, and Afghans look the same most of the time.

You don't fast when your sick, pregnent, or breastfeeding.

You dont have to fast, its optional. But people do it to get good deeds. I am doing it for that.

1 more hour to go

I AM STARVING!! I am sorta shaking. I need food or water..

Also, like you can tell your P.E. teacher that you're fasting, and you won't have to run or anything.

Umair you have an hour left? Lucky you live in Houston. I live in California. I have 2-3 hours left.

Question for everyone:
What type of food would you want when your fasting?
I'll post the answer later.

Hehe, I have like 45 minutes left. What I want when I am fasting the most is WATER

Props to you guys. I'm not Muslim but I can tell it is very tough. I find it a little weird, but every religion is different. Nonetheless good luck.

The answer is fast food. Some Non-Muslim people fast too. They try to see how diffucult it is. Many people who aren't Muslim like to fast, don't know why.

Yea there is fasting in Christianity.

Matthew 6:16-18 talks about how not to fast, and pretty much just emphasizes that when a Christian fasts it should be between them and God.

There are other verses that reference Christians fasting, but can't think of them off the top of my head.

I tried it out of curiosity a couple of years ago. Two of my co-workers were Muslims so I challenged myself to fast along with them. I only lasted two weeks and gave up. The hunger didn't really bother me, but I couldn't handle being thirsty all day long. It's also tough when lunch time comes around and people are trying to tempt you with a burger or bbq. I'm a sucker for good bbq.

Good luck to you guys.

^^Yea. I hate seeing others eat while you're by yourself starving like heck. The only thing that I really feel during fasting is thirst. I get really thirsty during fasting.

Aspects of fasting exist in a lot of religions. Not for 30 days straight, but there is fasting nonetheless. It exists for Hindu's as well.
